CONVERTING CUBIC
CENTIMETER TO CUBIC
METER AND VICE VERSA:
CUBIC CENTIMETER TO LITER
AND VICE VERSA
Let’s Answer This!
A box has a volume of 24 000 cubic centimeters (). What is its volume in cubic meters ()?

What is asked in the problem?

Answer: The volume of the box in
cubic meters ()
What are the given data?
Answer: A box with a volume of
24 000 cubic centimeters ()
What must we know in order to
change 24 000 cubic centimeters
() to cubic meters ()? How many cubic meters () are
there in 24 000 cubic
Answer: Divide by 1 000 000
since 100 cm = 1 m centimeters ()?
since 100 cm x 100 cm x 100 cm = Answer: 0.024
1mx1mx1m
Example 1
Convert 42 000 cubic centimeters () to cubic meters ().

To change 42 000 cubic centimeters () to cubic meters (), divide it by 1 000

000. Since 100 cm = 1 meter.

We have: 100 cm x 100 cm x 100 cm = 1 m x 1 m x 1 m

Thus, 1 000 000 = 1

42 000 / 1 000 000 = 0.042

How will you convert cubic meter () to cubic centimeter ()?

Since a cubic meter () is larger than a cubic centimeter (), we multiply by 1

000 000. Using the conversion 1 m3 = 1 000 000 .
Example 2
How many cubic centimeters () are there in 36 cubic meters?

36 x 1 000 000 = 36 000 000 cubic centimeters ()

Example 3
Convert 12 liters to cubic meters.

To convert 12 liters to cubic meters, just multiply 12 by 0.001 or divide 12 by

1 000.

12 x 0.001 = 0.012
REMEMBER
● 1 liter is equal to 0.001 cubic meter or 1 = 1000 L

● To convert liters (L) to cubic meters (), multiply the number

of liters (L) by 0.001 or divide by 1000.

● To convert cubic meters to L, multiply the number of cubic

meters by 1000.

● 1 liter (L) is equal to 1000 cubic centimeters ().

● To convert liters to cubic centimeters (), multiply

the number of liters (L) by 1 000 000.
