    A. BASIC SENTENCE STRUCTURE
    1. Sentence
    Câu là đơn vị ngữ pháp lớn nhất, thường bao gồm một chủ ngữ (subject), một động từ
    được chia (finite verb) và diễn tả ý tưởng hoàn chỉnh.
    a. Jeremy wants to major in chemistry in college ( Câu có ý tưởng hoàn chỉnh)

    b. Chemistry is his favorite subject (Câu có ý tưởng hoàn chỉnh)

    • Câu không hoàn chỉnh (Fragment)
    a. Wants to major in chemistry (Câu thiếu chủ ngữ)
    b. Jeremy to major in chemistry (Câu thiếu động từ)
    c. Because Jeremy likes chemistry (Câu thiếu mệnh đề chính)
    ®Because Jeremy likes chemistry, he wants to major in that subject (Câu phức)

    2. SENTENCE PATTERNS
    2.1. Pattern 1 – Chủ ngữ (Subject) + Động từ (Verb)
    a. My grandparents live in a small town.

    b. This meeting will last for at least three hours.

    2.2. Pattern 2 – Chủ ngữ (Subject) + Động từ (Verb) + Bổ ngữ (Complement)
    b. Parents are the best teacher for their children.

    c. Computers have become very useful tools in modern life.

    3. Pattern 3 – Chủ ngữ (Subject) + Động từ (Verb) + Tức từ (Object)
    a. Students should follow school rules.

    4. Pattern 4 – Chủ ngữ (Subject) + Động từ (Verb) + Từ gián tiếp (Indirect
    Object) + Túc từ trực tiếp (Direct Object)
    b. Some schools give their students a long summer vacation.

    b. We should ask ourselves what the most important thing in our lives is.

    5. Pattern 5 – Chủ ngữ (Subject) + Động từ (Verb) + Túc từ (Object) +Bổ ngữ
    (Complement)

    B. GERUNDS
    1. AS A SUBJECT
    a. Taking a walk is a very good exercise.
    b. Eating meals regularly is important to your health.
    2. AS A COMPLEMENT
    c. One of my favorite activities is surfing the internet.
    d. Teamwork is communicating with others.
    3. AS A OBJECT
    e. I enjoy watching movies in my space time.
    f. My brother is proud of having many good friends.
    C. INFINITIVES
    1. LIKE A NOUN
    a. To read books in English is very important for improving your vocabulary (Chủ ngữ)
    ®It is very important to read book in English to improve your vocabulary (Chủ ngữ giả - Chủ ngữ
    thật)
    b. The main purpose of travelling is to experience new things. (Bổ ngữ)
    c. People often like to criticize others’ behavior. (Túc từ)
    2. LIKE AN ADJECTIVE
    a. People’s behavior has much to do with what clothes they wear.
    b. I always need a book to read on the subway.
    3. LIKE AN ADVERB
    c. In order to earn more money in the future, people try to get accepted to good schools.
    d. No one is intelligent enough to make good decisions without others’ advice.
