There are things that we usually consider in


buying a newspaper. The most common are:
1. Location of the newsstand or store
2. Convenience of location
3. Banner story of the newspaper
4. Size of the newspaper
5. Cost of the newspaper
The following values should be emphasized
when discussing credible and worthy news
stories:
1. Timeliness
2. Prominence
3. Proximity
4. Unusual / Oddity
5. Conflict
6. Currency
How to Analyze a News Story
Some of the questions that we need to ask about the Creator
include the following:
1. Who wrote the news? 5. Is he or she credible?
2. What is his or her background?
3. What is his or her political affiliation, or what media
organization does he or she represent?
4. What do you think is his or her motive or purpose in writing
the news?
How to Analyze a News Story
Some of the questions that we need to ask about the Content
include the following:
1. What is the headline? Does it capture the essence of the article?
2. What is the slant of the news? Is the slant objective/subjective?
3. What politically charged labels, adjectives, and verbs are
evident?
4. What was covered and not covered?
5. Does it use politically correct and gender-sensitive language?
How to Analyze a News Story
Some of the questions that we need to ask about the Consumer
include the following:
1. Who is the intended consumer or reader?
2. Will the article appeal to him/her? Why or why not?
3. What will he/she gain from the article?

Advertisements are a paid form of


communication to promote more products and
services.
A copy is the textual information that tells about
what a product or service is all about.
How to Analyze Advertisements
The following are some questions that we need
to ask when analyzing and evaluating the

1. Who produced the advertisement?
2. What other products and services does the
advertiser offer?
3. What is the purpose of this advertisement
besides selling a product or service?

to ask when analyzing and evaluating the

2. How does the advertisement entice the
consumer to buy a product or avail themselves of
a service?
3. What needs or wants of the consumer does
the ad try to satisfy?
4. What is the ad’s effect on the consumer?
