OB Analysis Topics for Our Case Study
• Leadership
• Job Satisfaction & Motivation
• Organization Culture
Issues
• Data Breach
• Drivers Dissatisfaction
• Sexual Harassment
4
OB Analysis: Leadership (1)
• February 27, 2015:
• Uber admitted that it had attacked a data breach more than nine
months ago. Names and license plate information from aprt. 50,000
drivers were inadvertently disclosed.
• Uber discovered this leak in September 2014
• In 2020, the US Department of Justice announced criminal charges
against former Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan for obstruction of
justice.
• The criminal complaint said Sullivan arranged, with Kalanick's
knowledge, to pay a ransom for the 2016 breach as a "bug bounty" to
conceal its true nature.
• Fiedler Leadership Model: Surpassed
legislation, exploited legal gray areas,
deceived the people around him
• Task Oriented: Better performance in
situations of high and low control.

OB Analysis: Job Satisfaction & Motivation (2)
• Uber usually refers to its employees as “independent
contractors.” This is because it allows Uber not to provide
them with minimum wage, paid time off, and health
insurance.
• In October 2021, a survey was conducted
• 27% of drivers were dissatisfied with their earnings
• More than 40% were concerned about their wellness,
especially during the pandemic
• Job Dissatisfaction: Neglect, Demotivation,
manipulative
• Need Based Theory of Motivation: Security
and Psychological Needs
• Equity Theory: Only be motivated if they feel
like they are treated equitably

OB Analysis: Organizational Culture (3)
• Susan Fowler
• February 19, 2017: Former Uber engineer presented on her
personal website
• was propositioned for sex by a manager
• and subsequently threatened with termination of
employment by another manager if she continued to
report the incident
• Kalanick was alleged to have been aware of the complaint.
Kalanick took an indefinite leave of absence but, under
pressure from investors, he resigned as CEO a week later.
• Outcome Orientation: Focus
on outcomes rather that
techniques and processes
• Power and Dominance:
Abuse and high-position
dominancy
