Approximation
General English: a value or quantity that is nearly but
not exactly correct (Oxford dictionary)
Term in ELT: A coping strategy which involves either
circumlocution or substitution in the face of ignorance
of the correct form.
Compensation
General English: something, typically money, awarded
to someone in recognition of loss, suffering, or injury
Term in ELT: The ways in which speakers may
compensate for a lack of language skills and

General English: the action or process of talking about
