purpose?
• Follow this strategy to give your reflection some structure and help you
stay on target.
I – Identify the language technique
E – Give an Example of it from the artefact
E – Now Explain how it achieves the writer’s purpose.
Reflection 2 - Sample
In all pieces chosen, the language used was descriptive. My first piece entitled “Rape me” used
satire in the poem. An example to support this device is “my favourite inside source, I’ll kiss your
open sores, appreciate your concern, you’re gonna stink and burn.” This technique is effective as
it allows the audience to listen to and experience disgust. In my second piece “My virginity”, the
poet uses repetition throughout the poem. An example to support this device is “Nobody came to
help me, Nobody came to set me free.” This technique is effective as it helps the reader to
understand the despair the victim feels that nobody helped or set her free. My third piece entitled
“Rape in India” uses statistics. An example of this is “Rape is the fourth most common crime in
India.” This is effective because it highlights the prevalence of the crime of rape.
Note that each artefact is mentioned separately long with the purpose, language technique and whether it
was effective. Note how it follows IEE.
