Introduction
News reporters may sometimes require the use of
copyright material, such as short textual extracts or
clips from video footage, to report current events.
There is an exception to copyright for news
reporting that allows reporters to make use of
others’ work under certain circumstances.
In order to report current events, the reporter may
use copyright materials to provide information to
the public in relation to the respective events.
What`s New?
News is information about current events.
This may be provided through many different
media: word of mouth, printing, postal systems,
broadcasting, electronic communication, Digital
Media or through the testimony of observers and
witnesses to events.
News is sometimes called "hard news" to
differentiate it from soft media.

Unusualness: Is the event uncommon?
5Ws and 1H of Report Writing
The 5 WS and 1H of journalism are who, where,
what, when, why, and how.
A reporter must need to answer all these five w's
and h questions through the reporting. Therefore,
these are the essential elements that the reporter
should keep in mind during writing and publishing
a news story.
5W’s & H
1. Who ( who is involved?)
2. Where ( where did it happen?)
3. What ( what is happening?)
4. When (when did it happen?)
5. Why (why did it happen?)
6. Also, how ( how it happens?)
What`s Reporting?
REPORTING is the activity of collecting
information from a given area and reproducing it
to someone who is responsible for approving that
activity.
News Reporting
News reporting involves discovering
all relevant facts, selecting and
presenting the important facts.
Basic Activities

widely recognized and identifiable with print
journalism.

Listening to the voices and sounds
Noting down relevant information
This includes names, places, dates, time, figures
and other statistics

There are different types of news reporting which are as
under:-‑
Investigative Reporting: is finding, reporting and presenting news which other
people try to hide.
Court Reporting: Journalists often go to court to report on the cases being heard.
Accidence Reporting: Incident reporting is the process of recording worksite events,
including near misses, injuries, and accidents.
Political Reporting: is a broad branch of journalism that includes coverage of all
aspects of politics and political science,
Fashion Reporting: involves researching and writing about the latest fashion trends
and styles.
Business Reporting: is guides strategic decision-making to help business leaders
plan ahead and work out budgets among other functions.
Sports Reporting: is a form of writing that reports on matters pertaining to sporting
topics and competitions.
Specialized Reporting: also known Beat reporting, is a genre of journalism that can
be described as the craft of in-depth reporting on a particular issue, sector, organization or
institution over time.
