CT Scan Presentation

This document provides an overview of CT scans, including their history, system parts, operating principles, and Siemens models. It discusses the development of CT scanners through 4 generations from 1971 to 1978. The key components of a CT scan system are described as the gantry, patient table, generator, computer, and console. The imaging principles of the generator, detector, and image processing are explained. Spiral and sequence scanning techniques are compared. Common Siemens CT scan models and the specifications of the Sensation 64 model are listed. Preventative maintenance procedures are also outlined.

HISTORY
• The first clinical CT scanner installed in
England in 1971 .

• In 1972 two scientists –Huonsfield and

Ambrose – presented the first clinical CT
image.

• In 1974 the first Siemens CT scanner

(Siretom) Acquisition time 7 min., image
matrix 80x80 pixels, scan field 25 cm spatial
resolution 13 mm (4lp/cm).
Scanner Generations

• There are 4 different generations of

scanner are known:
1st Generation :was developed in 1971
(pencil beam ,Translation/Rotation)
The 2nd generation was developed in 1975:
(partial fan beam, translation/rotation)
The 3rd generation was developed in 1977:
(fan beam, rotating detector arc )
The 4th generation was developed in 1978 :
(fan beam , continuous rotation )
CT Scan System Parts
• The CT scan consists of :
Gantry:
(tube, collimator, detector, DAS, controllers)
Patient Table .

Generator:
(dc circuit, high tension transformer , inverter )
Computer :
( IRS &ICS )
Console :
(monitor, key board ,mouse )
Principals Of CT Scan

Spiral & Sequence
• Sequence :
Scanning technique with single scans and
optional table feed between the scan.
• Spiral :
Scanning technique with:
Continuous rotating tube/detector system
• Continuous radiation
• Continuous data acquisition
• Continuous table feed‫ت غ ذية‬
CT Scan Preventive
Maintenance
• Cleaning or replacement of air filters.
• Safety related tests:
-Emergency Stop
-Radiation lamp
-Safety limit switch of patient table
• Replacement of power brushes.
• Replacement of Data brushes.
• Cleaning the slip rings .
• Cleaning the detector window.
• Lubricating the patient table spindle.
• Checking the detector pressure.
• Performing the quality check
