from depressive disorders , with suicide rates in
2.5 males and 1.7 females per 100,000 of the
Filipino population according to the National
Center for Mental Health. Most suicides are
among in their 20.
Opinion

• The suicides rate of males is much higher than

females because of the reason some of the females
committing suicides can’t do it successfully. Some
females gash their hands and take some sleeping
pills that can’t make them die eventually . Some
males are bold enough to hung their selves and
drink some poisonous substance when they feel
depressed because of that they die eventually.

health and disability, according to the World

disorder, delusional disorder, psychotic disorders
and schizophrenia.

immediate depression and other MMD-like
symptoms is not classified as MDD .
• However , if these symptoms persist or worsen
after a time of period of two – three months,
then it can be considered as MDD.
Biological Theories

naturally present in the brain and assist
communications between nerve cells MMD is
called a “chemical imbalance”.
• Basically means that the messengers have been
depleted or reduced.

,genetics and life events.

SOCIAL MEDIA ENVY

• Is a MODERATE SIGNIFICANT PREDICTOR OF

SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION , among High School
Filipino students.
SOCIAL MEDIA ENVY

• Envy is that painful longing to have what others have. And if you've
ever felt envious of people you see on Facebook or Instagram, you
are not alone. Because of social media, people are constantly
bombarded with updates about friends, family, or acquaintances
and their achievements, travels, and seemingly perfect lives.

• So it's hard not to fall victim to envy, jealousy, and resentment.

This phenomenon is called social media envy---and it has become
so pervasive that numerous studies have even linked it with
symptoms of depression.
Suggestions And Opinions To Avoid Social
Media Envy
• Remind yourself that SOCIAL MEDIA IS CURATED. You need to recall that, as per
various examinations, individuals will in general post hands down the best forms
of themselves on social media.

• Individuals minister the best snapshots of their lives, explicitly picking what
they need to show on Facebook or Instagram. A great many people shroud the
terrible parts, the battles to arrive, and their disappointments. They pick the
most socially satisfactory and acclaim commendable parts and that is the thing
that they post.

• There are a great deal of things going on in people's lives that they don't put on
their updates. What's more, you need to advise yourself that their day by day
lives are significantly more like yours than you might suspect.
YOUTH SUICIDE IN PHILIPPINES

• As young as 10 years old suffer from depression and commit

suicide
• 16% of all suicides are teens (10-19 years old)
• Highest rate is among 15-24 years old

• SUICIDES RATE is on the rise!!!

RED FLAG FOR SUICIDES

• Actually talking about suicide or plans to do this

• Seeking out ways to harm or kill oneself expressing statement like;
“I’m going to kill myself’’ “I wish I was dead” “ I shouldn’t not
have been born”
• Being preoccupied with death in conversations, writing or
drawings
• Giving verbal hints like: “I wouldn't not be a problem for you much
longer” “you wont see me again”.
TREATMENTS

• BIOLOGICAL-antidepressants work by restoring

chemicals in the brain to the right levels
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on fighting
off negative thoughts
• Other kinds of therapies depending on the
situation
TREATMENTS

• Emerging research evidence show that early treatments of

depression can prevent or reverse changes in the brain associated
with recurrent episodes

• No treatment is lost opportunity

• Study suggest more than 50% of psychiatric disorders in pediatric
setting go unrecognized and untreated.
