Impressionism is an art inspired by how the
painter sees the subject at that moment. Every
person has a different impression of the
things around them. Painters of this style
prefer to work outside their studio to capture
the natural light of their subjects.
Characteristics of Impressionism:
1. Uses short, thick brush strokes
2. Colors are not mixed well
3. Blurry images
4. Shows mood; no hidden meaning
5. Subjects are commonly nature and
objects around us
6. Uses complementary colors to show
shadow.

Post-Impressionism relies on the gains
made by in terms of the use of colors, and
spontaneous brush stroke.
Unlike impressionism that uses light to
show impressions, this art style rely on the
use of more vivid color.
This style was a response to
Impressionism, which viewed as lacking of
emotion.
Points of pure color: Pointillism involved the
application of paint in carefully placed dots of
pure, unmixed color. According to Seurat and
Signac, these would be blended by the viewer’s
eye to create a more striking image than any
made after mixing colors conventionally on a
palette.
