What is Art?

Art is the expression or application of

human creative skill and imagination,
typically in a visual form such as painting or
sculpture, producing works to be appreciated
primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
Modern art includes artistic work produced
during the period extending roughly from the
1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the styles
and philosophies of the art produced during
that era. The term is usually associated with
art in which the traditions of the past have
been thrown aside in a spirit of
experimentation.
Realism
In its specific sense realism refers to a mid
nineteenth century artistic movement
characterized by subjects painted from
everyday life in a naturalistic manner.

Post-Impressionism relies on the gains
made by in terms of the use of colors, and
spontaneous brush stroke.
Unlike impressionism that uses light to
show impressions, this art style rely on the
use of more vivid color.
This style was a response to
Impressionism, which viewed as lacking of
emotion.
Points of pure color: Pointillism involved the
application of paint in carefully placed dots of
pure, unmixed color. According to Seurat and
Signac, these would be blended by the viewer’s
eye to create a more striking image than any
made after mixing colors conventionally on a
palette.
