Nanji is an interrogative to ask what time.


Nanfun/Nanpun How many minutes?

Geographical location can be used as topic.

Time に Verb
に　 is added when the noun before it uses a
numeral. It can also be added to the days of the
week, though it is not essential. Adverbs of
time do not take particle に。
Examples
1. 4 ji han に okimasu.
2. 9ji に benkyoushimashita.
3. Nichiyoubi に yasumimasu.
4. 7gatsu に hatarakimasu.
5. Kinou(x) owarimashita.
6. Ashita(x) benkyoushimasu.
7. Maiasa(x) hatarakimasu.
5. N1 kara N2 made

Kara – indicates the starting time/place


Made – indicates the finishing time/place
Examples:
a. 9ji kara 5ji made hatarakimasu.
I work from 9 to 5.

b. Getsuyoubi kara kinyoubi made benkyoushimasu.


I study from Mondays thru Fridays.

c. Asa kara ban made yasumimasu.


I take a rest from morning until evening.
d. LPU kara Bayleaf made 5fun kakarimasu.
It takes 5mins from LPU to Bayleaf.

e. Kyou kara asatte made benkyoushimasu.


I will study today until the day after tomorrow.
2) kara and made are not always used together.

Examples:
a. 9ji kara hatarakimasu.
I work from 9.

b. 5ji made benkyoushimasu.


I study until 5.

c. Getsuyoubi kara yasumimasu.


I will take a rest starting Monday.
3) –kara,-made or –kara –made is sometimes
used with desu added directly after either.

Examples:
a. Ginkou wa 9ji kara 3ji made です。
The bank is open from 9 to 3.
b. Yasumi wa 12ji kara です。
Rest time starts at 12.
Translation

1. I study from 11:30 until 1:00 everyday.


2. The post office is from 8:00 until 5:00 pm.
3. Yesterday I rested from 6:00 until 9:00 pm.
4. I worked from 7:30 am yesterday.
5. It takes 30 minutes from Quiapo until LPU.
6. N1 to N2
to – connects 2 nouns in coordinate relation.

Examples:
a. Ginkou no yasumi wa doyoubi to nichiyoubi desu 。
The bank is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

b. Nihongo to eigo wa benkyoushimashita.


I studied Japanese and English.
Examples
1. Book and pencil ( hon to empitsu)
2. Library and canteen (toshokan to shokudou)
3. You and I (anata to watashi)
4. Japanese and English (nihongo to eigo)
5. Chocolates and flowers (chokoreeto to hana)
７． ne
ne is attached to the end of a sentence to add
feeling to what the speaker says. It shows the
speaker’s sympathy or the speaker’s
expectation that the listener will agree.
Example:
a. Mainichi 10ji made benkyoushimasu.
I study till ten everyday.
… taihen desune.
… that must be hard.

b. Yamada san no denwa bangou wa 773-7812 です。


Mr. Yamada’s phone number is 773-7812.
… 773- 7812 desune.
… 773- 7812, right?
