Foods are the most common terms to
change within a dialect. What one dialect might call shrimp, another might call crawfish. TYPES OF DIALECTS DIALECTS OF ENGLISH
The major native dialects of English
are often divided by linguists into three general categories: the British dialects, American dialect, and those of Australia.
Dialects can be associated not only
with place, but also with particular social groups.. BRITISH ENGLISH British English is the standard dialect of English language as spoken and written in the United Kingdom.
English is a West Germanic
language that originated from the Anglo-Frisian dialects brought to Britain by Germanic settlers The biggest difference between British English and American English is in pronunciation.
Apart from pronunciation , British
English spelling differs from American English spelling.
Differencesin vocabulary and

• American English differs from
other national varieties in many of its pronunciations, words, spellings, and grammatical constructions. • Americans pronunciation is different from British pronunciation.
• American English spelling differs from
British English spelling. ‘An American Dictionary of the English Language’ (1828) by Webster sought to standardize spelling in the United States. • Various vocabulary differences between American and British English are:-
• Grammatical difference is also there
between American and British English. A U S T R A L I A N E N G L I S H • Australian English began to diverge from British English after the First Settlers, who set up the Colony of New South Wales, arrived in 1788.
• Australian English has a lot of slang. They are
formed in various ways and are often used to indicate familiarity. • Spelling of some Australian and British English words are same in comparison to American English.
