• Mario Botta (born April 1, 1943) is a Swiss architect.
• Botta designed his first buildings at age 16
• His designs tend to include a strong sense of geometry, often being based
on very simple shapes, yet creating unique volumes of space. His
buildings are often made of brick, yet his use of material is wide, varied,
and often unique
• His ideas were influenced by Le Corbusier, Carlo Scarpa, Louis Kahn. He
opened his own practice in 1970 in Lugano.

OF THE CHURCH CONSIST ENTIRELY OF
BRICKS.
 THE TOP OF THE CATHEDRAL IS ALSO
EQUIPPED WITH A FILIGREE
STYLE(ORNAMENTAL WORK OF FINE WE
FORMED INTO DELICATE TERACY) BELFRY(A
PART OF BELL TOWER OR STEEPLE IN
WHICH BELLS ARE HOUSED) WITH FIVE
BELLS CARRIED.
 THE WALLS ARE COVERED WITH 800,000 BRICKS
FORMING GEOMETRICAL DESIGNS

 THE CHRIST WAS MADE IN TANZANIA (EAST AFRICAN


COUNTRY) AT THE BEGININNG OF 20TH CENTURY.
AT THE FRONT OF CHOIR ,THE MARBLE BAPTISMAL
FONT ENABLES BAPTISM BY IMMERSION.
 BEHIND THE ALTAR IS A WINDOW WHICH
SYMBOLISES TREE.

 THE CENTRE PIECE OF INTERIOR IS FORMED
BY A BULGING WALLS ABOVE THE ALTAR AND
SPECTACULARLY EMERGES.

 LIGHT COMES FROM A COPMPLEX ROOF


WHICH IS MADE UP OF STEEL ENTERS TO THE
ROOM, ALSO CONTRIBUTES TO THE
APPROPRIATE SACRED ATMOSPHERE.
 THE NAVE IS A VERTICAL CYLINDER OF
29M(95FT) IN DIAMETER BUILT IN BRICKS.

 THE FLOOR IS COVERED IN BLACK GRANITE.

 AT THE BACK OF THE CHANCEL , A WINDOW


SYMBOLISES A TREE.
 THE GLASS PART BETWEEN THE ROOF AND
THE WALL ENABLES A NATURAL VENTILATION
IN BUILDING.

 THE MARBLE ALTAR LIES ON A COLUMN


WHICH STANDS IN THE CRYPT.
(UNDERGROUND ROOM OR VAULT USED AS
BURIAL PLACE.)
 A DESCENDING RAMP IS BUILT, WHICH
CAN ENTER THE ROOM, BECAUSE THE
WALLS ARE COMPLETELY COVERED WITH
BRICKS AND SYSTEMATICALLY PROVIED
WITH OPENING.
