Changing Lives

This document contains a strategic intervention material for science 4 that focuses on the life cycles of animals. It includes objectives, guide cards, activity cards, an assessment card, and enrichment and reference cards. The activity cards provide diagrams and questions to help students learn about the life cycles of frogs, butterflies, cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies, and grasshoppers. The assessment card tests students on ordering the life cycle stages. The enrichment card creates a life cycle wheel activity.

SCIENCE 4

Prepared by:

Teacher III
OBJECTIVES

The SIM aims to:

1. Identify the stages in the life cycle of some
animals
2. Describe the changes in animals as they develop
and grow
3. Name animals that undergo complete and
incomplete metamorphosis
4. Show enthusiasm in doing activities in the SIM

2
Guide Card

Animals grow and

develop in many
different ways. Some
animals are born alive
so they look like their
parents when they are
born. Some animals do
not. These animals
undergo changes
before they look like
their parent animals.

Would you like to find

out how some animals
develop and grow? Well,
go on and discover how
these animals change
as they grow!

3
Activity Card # 1
Identify and label the different stages in the life cycle of a
frog using the terms given in the word box.
Word Box

Adult frog Tadpole with legs Egg mass Young frog

Tadpole

Did you get all?

Then move on! 4
Activity Card # 2
Connect the pictures to the correct stage in
the box to show the life cycle of a butterfly.

Eggs

Butterfly Caterpillar

Chrysalis

Excellent! Go on…
5
Activity Card # 3

Label the diagram of the correct life cycle of a cockroach.

NYMPH

EGG

Good job!
Have another
activity. 6
Activity Card # 4
Group these animals by writing their names in their
proper column. Let’s see how well you can do it.

animals by numbering it from 1-3 or from1-4.

Enrichment Card

Step 1. Cut and paste the Life Cycle Wheel on card stock.
Step 2. Color the front and back wheels.
Step 3. Attach the front to the back with a brass paper
fastener.
Step 4. Spin the wheel in the direction of the arrow to follow
the life cycle.

9
Reference Card

Animals are living things. Living things can

produce their own kind through the process of
reproduction.
Some animals are hatched from egg. Other
animals are born alive. They look like their parents
when they are born.
But there are young animals which look very
different from their parent animals. These animals
undergo changes before they look like their parent
animals.
The changes that these animals undergo from
the time they are laid as eggs to the time they can
reproduce is called life cycle.
They start as eggs, then they become larvae,
then pupa and finally they become adult.
These animals undergo either complete or
incomplete metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the
changes or stages which take place during the life cycle
of some animals.
Complete metamorphosis has four stages: egg,
larva, pupa and adult. The butterfly, mosquito and fly
have complete metamorphosis.
Incomplete metamorphosis has three stages:
egg, young and adult. The grasshopper and cockroach
follow incomplete metamorphosis.

First of all there is Blue. Later there is White,
and then there is Black, and before the
beginning there is Brown...Brown taught him
