Biological Hazard

Refer to organisms that are harmful to

human health
Exposed to airborne and blood borne viruses,
bacteria and fungus
Spread through
1- respiratory system
2- contact with body fluids
3- contact with contaminated objects

Soures Of Biological Hazards

Exposure to infective and parasitic agents

For Example:
Activity: Concrete work / handling cement
Effect: skin cancer/ skin infection / skin
injuries

Microorganism (Bacteria, virus)

For Exampe:
` Activity: during remove rust on
reinfocrement and mould cleaning
Effect : risk of tetanus caused by bateria
producing toxin that harmful for
health

Mites, Insect bite, dog bite, snake bite (Aedes)

For example:
Activity: Site clearance
Effect : causes dengeu fever, chikungunya
virus

Plant origin like fungus, yeasts and mold

For example:
Activity: Site clearance
Effect: Poisonous infection from poison
plants like Abrus precatorius
(Akar Belimbing, Akar Saga)
can cause blindness

Prevention

Employee health program

Laboratory Safety Program
Animal care and Handling
Biological Safety Cabinets
Buildding/ Engineering Design
Environmental monitoring
- Check air quality (monitoring air contiminants)
- Workers expossures
Ventilation
- Control of atmospheric contaminants to
healthful level
- Control of heat and humidity for comfort
