This progress report discusses a research being conducted on how laboratory practices and technical skills help FKMP students of UTHM in their industrial training and future careers. Work completed so far includes selecting a research topic, developing a proposal and questionnaire, and distributing the questionnaire to 35 student respondents. Current work involves analyzing the questionnaire responses. Work still to be done consists of analyzing and discussing the data, drawing conclusions, and presenting the final report. Challenges encountered have included selecting an appropriate topic and respondents, and ensuring the work is completed on schedule. The overall aim of the research is to understand how laboratory skills relate to industrial training and to increase student awareness of this connection.

Laboratory practices (technical skills) helps in working field (industrial training) among FKMP students of UTHM
Ahmad Zhafri bin Mairop DD120074 Kavindran Kopalkrisnan DD120026 Mohd Ridwan bin Hairani DD120065 Norherman bin Abdul Rahman DD120062 Prathabrao Muniandy DD120063
This progress report is prepared for the research on the Laboratory practices (technical skills) helps in working field (industrial training) among FKMP students of UTHM.
The purpose of preparing the progress report is to list out the work to be done, work in progression and work completed clearly in a written form.
Besides, the report is also being prepared to ensure that the progression of the research is running according to the planned schedule.
The purpose of laboratory work is to study how an experiment will be conducted and how something will actually behave in certain condition. Both analysis and laboratory work are critical aspects of engineering design in terms of supplement for analysis.
Laboratory work may reveal faulty assumptions that not identified during analysis and it can identify the strengths or weaknesses overlooked in it.
Students can also identify the properties and performance of materials, components and systems through laboratory experiments.
Laboratory practices (technical skills) helps in industrial training among FKMP students of UTHM.
To identity the laboratory practices (skills) that interrelated in industrial training and working field.
To create awareness among FKMP students about skills or knowledge that will be applied during industrial training.
The progress report is written in task line form.
First of all, we will list out the work completed in this progress report.
Secondly, we will state the work in progress.
Thirdly, we will discuss about the work to be done so that the research can be conducted in sequence.
Besides, we will also discuss about the problems that encountered throughout the research.
Work Completed
We were being told to conduct a research as an assignment for the course technical writing (UWB20302) during the lecture.
We come out with few ideas and discuss with our lecturer
Finally we choose the topic Laboratory practices (technical skills) helps in working field (industrial training) among FKMP students of UTHM.
Once the topic being approved, we started to prepare the proposal and the questionnaire for the research. A meeting was conducted to discuss about the preparation on proposal. Jobs were divided among group members. The first draft of proposal and questionnaire were showed to our lecturer.
Basically, the proposal and questionnaire were nicely constructed however there were some corrections to be done. The complete proposal and questionnaire were sent to the lecturer via schoology.
Work in Progress
We currently working on distributing the questionnaire to all the FKMP respondents through online method.
A total number of 35 respondents from Mechanical Faculty (FKMP) are selected to fill in the questionnaire.
After distributing the questionnaire, we collect back the questionnaire from the respondents.
Most of the students answered the questionnaire through online.
Work to be Done
The works yet to be done are mainly about analysis, discussion and conclusion for the research.
The questions are sectioned; each section contains a set of questions.
Each set of questions is related to certain point of study.
Thus, the analysis will be systematically done according to the questions answered.
From the data analysed, we can come out with findings and discussion by evaluating the students responds toward the issues on habits going back to hometown weekly among UTHM students.
We will come out with a conclusion by summarising the content of the research and recommendation by providing ideas or suggestions on the issues studied.
We will do a presentation of the report to explain the purpose of doing the research, to elaborate what had been done throughout the research and to show the final outcomes of our research and submit it on time.
We were facing difficulties in selecting the suitable research title. We come out with some ideas and after some discussion with our lecturer, we found that some ideas were not suitable to study as a research and some of them were lack of interest to study on.
Eventually, we choose the Laboratory practices (technical skills) helps in working field (industrial training) among FKMP students of UTHM because it related to our field. Then, we faced problems when working on the proposal and questionnaire. For example, the content of the proposal was not clearly stated. These mistakes had been corrected after being checked by our lecturer.
Currently, we are working with the questionnaire. The problem faced is that the number of students in FKMP that are done with their industrial training are more than the number of students have not start their industrial training. We had some problem in choosing the correct respondent for our research.
The problem that we predict will be faced in the coming time is the insufficient of time to carry out the research. Hence, we will divide the tasks among ourselves and make sure that each of us is doing their own part on time. Some of the tasks can be combined to do it simultaneously.
Based on the process that will be done soon, we can interpret and look into several problem related to the issues on the Laboratory practices (technical skills) helps in working field (industrial training) among FKMP students of UTHM. The research might be helpful in analysing our own perspective the Laboratory practices (technical skills) helps in working field (industrial training) among FKMP students of UTHM, arising the awareness on the importance of the skills learned in laboratory practice, evaluating how does the habits affect the universitys reputation and accessing how does the habits effect the students future job situation.
