A1.1 - ENGLISH TOLC-I (also in the TOLC@HOME mode)
The ENGLISH TOLC-I is an assessment test designed to determine preparation for studies; it is delivered on
the computerised platform managed by the Consorzio Interuniversitario Sistemi Integrati per l'Accesso (CISIA).
It consists of individual tests, which differ from one student to another, consisting of questions selected
automatically and randomly from the CISIA ENGLISH TOLC-I database by means of software; all the ENGLISH
TOLC-I tests generated have a similar or at least comparable level of difficulty. The CISIA ENGLISH TOLC-I
database containing the questions used for the test is protected and validated by national scientific committees
set up by CISIA.

On the [Link] website, you may find more information on the test organisation.
For further information please see:
[Link]

The ENGLISH TOLC-I in TOLC@HOME mode allows the test to be taken regularly at the students' homes and
is identical to the ENGLISH TOLC-I.

answers, resulting in an overall score, derived from

Bonus/malus Criterium (Mathematics, Logic and Reading Comprehension)

+1 point Correct answer

0 points Ungiven answer

12
–0.25 points Wrong answer

The result obtained in the in-person ENGLISH TOLC-I is available immediately after the end of the test, on the
same computer terminal assigned for the test; it can be viewed and downloaded in the "test results" section of
the CISIA website, by accessing your "test reserved area" with the credentials you used to register on the portal.

The score obtained in TOLC@HOME mode, immediately viewable on the screen at the end of the test, will be
recognised as official and made available, subject to verification of non-compliance of test performance in
accordance with the CISIA "TOLC Participants" regulations, within 48 hours from the day after the test date.
Candidates who have taken the test correctly, following the rules and behaviour indicated in the regulations, will
have their TOLC@HOME result recognised/validated and will be able to access the resulting certificate within

Total 154 180 minutes (3 hours)

After taking the test, you will obtain a score (SAT Total Score) that summarises the results of the test sections.
The score is reported on a scale from 400 to 1600 and combines the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
score and the Math score (each on a 200-800 scale). The score report provides further information based on
additional sub-scores.
This score is necessary for the admission procedure and determines whether or not you will be given Further
Required Courses in accordance with the indications in section 9.
If you take the SAT more than once after January 1, 2023, the best score obtained among those you have asked
the College Board to send to Sapienza University of Rome by October 30, 2025, will be considered.

You will have to send, through the College Board, the SAT Scores to Sapienza University of Rome via the Higher
Education Institution Code below:

A1.6 - Methodological note and concordance table between SAT and ENGLISH TOLC-I
In order to make the results of the admission tests considered in this call for applications comparable, a single
score expressed in hundredths will be used. The conversion is based on the following formulae. Considering

• min
𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I equal to 0

• max
𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I equal to the maximum score obtainable with the ENGLISH TOLC-I, i.e. 50

• 𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I equal to the score obtained by the candidate through the ENGLISH TOLC-I

the unified score is calculated as follows:

min
0 if𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I ≤ 𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I
𝑇={ max min
(𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I − 𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I )
𝑇ENGLISH TOLC-I × otherwise.
100

Considering

• min
𝑇SAT equal to 600

• max
𝑇SAT equal to the maximum score obtainable with the SAT, i.e. 1600,

• 𝑇SAT equal to the score obtained by the candidate through the SAT,

• the unified score is calculated as follows:

min
0 if 𝑇SAT ≤ 𝑇SAT
𝑇={ max min
(𝑇SAT − 𝑇SAT )
𝑇SAT × otherwise.
100

The resulting concordance tables are provided below.
