Idea 4:
● Project Title:
Blockchain-based Product Authenticity Checker (ChainCheck)
● Aligned SDG Goal(s):
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production
SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

● Problem Statement:
Counterfeit products are a major issue in industries such as pharmaceuticals, luxury goods,
and electronics, leading to consumer fraud, safety risks, and economic losses. Existing
systems for tracking authenticity are centralized and prone to tampering or forgery.
● Objective:
To build a decentralized product authenticity system using blockchain technology that tracks
product origin, ownership, and movement across the supply chain. The system will allow end
consumers to verify authenticity by simply scanning a QR code on the product.
● Proposed Solution:
Core Goals
o Register product batches on blockchain at the manufacturer level.
o Generate unique QR codes linked to blockchain entries.
o Record every product movement (manufacturer → distributor → retailer) immutably on
blockchain.
o Enable consumers to scan QR codes and verify product journey and authenticity.
o Alert user if product is counterfeit or tampered.

● Technology Stack:

Layer Chosen Technology

Smart Contracts Solidity (Ethereum) / Chaincode (Hyperledger Fabric))

Blockchain Platform Ethereum (Testnet) / Hyperledger Fabric

Frontend React.js

Backend Node.js / Python Flask

QR Code qrcode.react / jsQR

Database (Off-chain MongoDB / Firebase

meta)

Storage (Docs/Images) IPFS (optional)

Blockchain Explorer Etherscan / Custom Explorer UI

● Frameworks/Tools:
o Solidity – smart contract development
o Ganache/Remix – smart contract testing
o Web3.js / Ether.js – blockchain interaction
o IPFS – optional decentralized file storage
o React – for frontend consumer interface
o MongoDB – for lightweight off-chain storage
o Postman – API testing
o VS Code – development environment

● Feasibility Analysis:
o Technical feasibility:

▪ Lightweight smart contracts ensure scalability.

▪ QR code generation and blockchain interaction are tested tools with

libraries.
▪ Modular and extensible design for adding industries (pharma, fashion, etc.).

o Resource availability:

▪ Testnet deployment using Ethereum/Ganache (no real cost)

▪ Open-source libraries for blockchain, QR, and UI.

▪ Software: All required libraries and tools are free and open-source

o Timeline:

Phase Duration

Blockchain Design 3 week

Smart Contract Dev 2 week

QR Code Generation Module 2 week

UI/UX Design 2 week

Backend Setup & Database Integration 3 week

Smart Contract + UI Integration 3 week

Testing & Demo Prep (60% Completion) 1 week

Remaining UI + Admin Panel 3 weeks

Final Integration & Optimization 3 weeks

Final Testing & Debugging 2 weeks

Total Duration 24 week

o Estimated Cost: ₹0

● Expected Impact (Social/Industrial/Environmental):

Social:
▪ Protects consumers from counterfeit and harmful products.

▪ Builds trust in markets like medicines and baby products.

Industrial:
▪ Reduces losses from fake products and strengthens brand value.

▪ Enables transparent tracking and accountability across supply chains.

Environmental:

▪ Promotes responsible production by encouraging traceability.

▪ Discourages grey-market and fake product manufacturing practices.
