Making Adjectives with -ic, -ical, and -ous
-ic
We use -ic to make adjectives from some nouns.
These adjectives often describe something related to the
noun.

Examples:
▪ history → historic (very important in history)
▪ hero → heroic (like a hero)
▪ artist → artistic (like an artist)
▪ drama → dramatic (like a drama or very emotional)
-ical
-ical is also used to make adjectives.
They often mean "related to" or "connected with" the noun.

Sometimes -ic and -ical are both possible, but their meanings
might be different like historic and historical.

Examples:
▪ history → historical (related to history)
▪ magic → magical (full of magic)
▪ economy → economical (not wasting money)
▪ practice → practical (can be done)
-ous

We use -ous to describe something that has a

quality or is full of something.

Examples:
▪ danger → dangerous (full of danger)
▪ fame → famous (having fame)
▪ mystery → mysterious (full of mystery)
Use the words in the word bank to complete the sentences.
You must change the part of speech: turn the noun into an
adjective using -ic, -ical, or -ous.
Some words can be used more than once.
