Indian Institute of Technology Ropar
The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) is one
of the eight new IITs established by the Ministry of Human
Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, in
2009. Following the true tradition of the IIT system, the
institute provides state-of-the-art technical education across
various fields and facilitates the transmission of knowledge
in line with the latest developments in pedagogy.
The journey began with the first academic session
(2008–09) conducted at the IIT Delhi campus and after that,
the institute started functioning from its transit campus in
Rupnagar from August 1, 2009. The Foundation Stone for the
permanent campus was laid on February 24, 2009 and IIT
Ropar celebrates it on the same date every year. The
permanent campus is spread over more than 500 acres with
all necessary facilities is a testament to the institute's
commitment to providing a conducive learning
environment.
In terms of rankings, IIT Ropar has secured the 22nd and
48th positions in the National Institutional Ranking
Framework (NIRF) 2024 for Engineering and Overall
categories respectively. With a strong track record of
placements, IIT Ropar emphasizes its dedication in offering
students a bright future and a wide array of career
opportunities.

Department of Civil Engineering
The Civil Engineering Department at IIT Ropar was founded
in 2016 with the ambition of achieving global recognition.
Since its inception, it has rapidly established itself as a
center for pioneering research and academic excellence.
The department is committed to providing high-quality
education under the guidance of esteemed faculty members
renowned for their expertise. The Civil Engineering faculty
actively engages with Punjab government officials and
participates in various programs. Notable achievements that
highlight the department's focus on practical problem-
solving include the development of a specialized training
program for Punjab Urban & Development Authority
(PUDA) engineers and the execution of consulting studies.
The department has made significant progress across all
areas. It now boasts 64 research scholars and offers M. Tech
programs in Water Resources & Environment and
Structural Engineering & Geomechanics. The department
takes great pride in its students' achievements, with many
having received awards, published in esteemed journals, and
contributed significantly to academic discussions.
Numerous students have garnered Best Paper Awards at
both national and international conferences, highlighting
the department's dedication to nurturing talent. Graduates
of the Civil Engineering Department at IIT Ropar have gone
on to become key figures in leading companies, pursue
advanced studies at top universities, and obtain teaching
positions at renowned IITs, demonstrating the department's
enduring influence in shaping successful careers.
