History of EDII
Established in 2001, the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII),
Chennai is an apex organization in the field of entrepreneurship education and self-
employment promotion in the state of Tamil Nadu.
EDII was constituted by Government of Tamil Nadu as a not-for- profit society and is
administered by Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Headed
by the Director of the Institute, EDII is managed under the superintendence of a
Governing Council, appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Vision
Recognizing developments across the world and India on entrepreneurship and
innovation, taking into account best practices across the world, Vision, Mission, Core
Values and Strategy for EDII are detailed below:
An aspirational and inclusive entrepreneurship and business innovation culture spreads
across Tamil Nadu with EDII emerging as the State resource hub in education, training,
research & practice in Entrepreneurship & Innovation.
Mission
Rapid, sustainable and inclusive growth of MSM enterprises and innovation by youth
and adults across Tamil Nadu through effective entrepreneur competency development,
partnerships, business network development, advocacy, training, communication,
innovation promotion and business facilitation services, leading to job growth and
economic development.

Goals
The Strategic Plan hopes to achieve by 2021:
1. To Train 50,000 Students to become as new entrepreneurs & network them.
2. 19 State, 2 Central Universities, Deemed Universities, Government and aided
Institutions of higher learning create vibrant hubs for startups and business innovation
3. Create a vibrant entrepreneurial climate in 1000 colleges, polytechnics, ITIs with
functioning IEDCs, E-clubs
4. Support establishment of 10 world class technology incubators in thrust sectors with
focus on manufacturing
5. Support establishment of Business Incubators in 100 colleges & research institutions.
6. Encourage, facilitate and support emergence of 5000 technology startups in Tamil
Nadu in manufacturing
Objectives
1. Spread aspirational entrepreneurship & innovation culture in Tamil Nadu
2. Build enterpreneurial competencies of aspiring youth and entrepreneurs, including
those from disadvantaged sections of society
3. Enhancement of the support ecosystem for entrepreneurs, including technology
startups
4. Reduction in risk of enterprise and innovation failures
5. Embedding entrepreneurship education in the formal education system

University College of Engineering Villupuram EDII VPM HUB.
Anna University is keen on developing world class entrepreneurial ecosystem in
tamilnadu technical education. The Anna University permitted the University College of
Engineering Villupuram to establish as EDII Hub to inculcate Entrepreneurship. The
University College of Engineering Villupuram acts as a Hub for the Districts of
Villupuram, Tiruvannmalai, Ariyalur, kallakurichi and Cuddalore of all streams such as
Engineering, Polytechnic, Arts & Science, ITI and Law College etc.,it is purely on
Voluntary basis.
The UCEV EDII VPM HUB is majorly concentrates on developing “Innovation and
Entrepreneurship” culture in the ecosystem. The hub networks school students, college
students, college teachers, startup companies, Investors and government bodies. The
programmes are organized with various objectives like Faculty Development
Programme, Take off, E-leaders workshop, Tamilnadu ilam innovators challenge, TNSI
particularly basic awareness, ideation, boot camp, pitch fest, business model canvas and
Intellectual property rights, capacity building.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
EDII has insisted to conduct Faculty Development program for teaching
staff from different spoke colleges of Engineering, Arts & Science College,
Polytechnic, and ITI collaborated with EDII UCEV Villupuram hub
respectively on 18.07.2019 to 20.07.2019. The teaching staffs from various
institutes and total of 36 participants have attended the workshop.
Dr.R.Senthil, Former Dean, Anna University College of Engineering
Villupuram inaugurated the Faculty Development Programme. In his
inaugural address, he mentioned that EDII activities will lead to research

E-LEADERS WORKSHOP PROGRAMME
The E-Leaders workshop aims to reach out the Entrepreneurship skill set among various stake holders in
the region and also nurtures the spirit of entrepreneurship in the young minds. Also to impart Leadership
skills & tools, Manage and transform E-Cells, establish & run campus companies.
The E-Cell Leaders programme was organized for the
students from 25.09.2019 & 26.09.2019. The E-Cell
Leaders workshop Programme is for spoke colleges
registered under AIEDP web portal. E-Cell Leaders
from various institutions registered as E-members can
participate from each college. The E-Cell Leaders
workshop program is mainly focused to enhance the
E-cell activity in the spoke colleges. Total number of
92 students from 15 institutions has attended the
workshop.

Entrepreneurship Development
and Innovation Institute of Tamil
nadu (EDII-TN) exists to
empower entrepreneurs and build
an ecosystem that sustains and
nourishes entrepreneurship. EDII-
TN also acts as the nodal agency
for the Tamil Nadu Start-Up and
Innovation Mission(TANSIM). STAGES OF TNIIC : 1. Train The Trainers (T.T.T) Programmes at

UCEV EDII VPM HUB FIELD COORDINATOR TNSI-2019 BOOTCAMP COORDINATION.
Entrepreneurship is the way we teach
people to take control of their lives in a
tough economy. The 3-day boot camp
(Each zone will have a boot camp)
promises the aspirants to lead them in
the right direction. The boot camp is
expected to have 20 teams (approx. 60
participants) who will have the first-
hand experience from domain experts.
