Warm up:
Write the following sentences on the board and ask students what the verbs are. Then ask them
what tenses have been used and how they differ in meaning.
* Grandpa always sits near the window.
* Grandpa is sitting near the window.

Presentation:
First: I will revise the affirmative, negative, question forms and short answers of these two
tenses with the class
Then: I will discuss the usage of the present simple and present continuous tenses, and how and
when students can use them in their daily routine. By power point presentation, giving more
explanation about the structure and usage of each tense in detail.
Finally: the students will answer the exercises in the Student's Book.
Activities:
Playing a game called “Predict and Say” to form a sentence using the two tenses.

Warm up:
Dividing the students into 2 different groups. The first group writes sentences about the things
they did do last week, and the second group writes sentences about the things they were doing
at 8 o’clock yesterday. Modelling is necessary by writing similar sentences.
Teaching Strategy: Discussion, Brain storming, Group work.
Presentation:
First: I will hand out a cartoon or photo of a bustling location with lots of things happening (an
airport departure lounge or a busy open-plan office). Explain that the picture shows what was
happening at exactly 12.00 midday yesterday. Helping students to make sentences describing
what people were doing (Some children were climbing on a pile of suitcases).
Then: the students will predict what happened next to those people. Then, guessing what those
people used to do in the past
Finally: I will introduce the form of the past simple and the past continuous, and the major
differences between them using while, as, when. Then, introducing the used to form. Answer
some questions in the booklet.

Warm up:
Write the numbers “6.15 am, 1/3, 1971, 2.6 “on the board and ask Ss what kind of numbers
they are. The ask them how we say these numbers in English.
Teaching Strategy:

Presentation:
First: I will explain to the Ss that they will hear a conversation of an interview and that they
write exactly what they hear using numbers. Play the recording once all the way through and
ask students to write the correct answer to match the words with the meanings in each case.
Give Ss a few minutes to compare their answers with a partner’s. Ask Ss to justify their answers
if they are different.
Then: I will ask the Ss to work in pairs to take turns to decide whether the sentences are true or
false.
Finally: I will write any structural mistakes that students made on the board without saying
who made them, and ask them to correct these mistakes.
Activities: create a PowerPoint presentation with a noun on each slide. Have one student come
to the front of the room and sit with their back to the PowerPoint. The rest of the students take
turns describing the words on the slides, and the student at the front has to guess them.

2- Know the places and things associated with mysteries.

Warm up:
-Asking students to look at the title of the unit and to guess what the unit might be about.
-Asking students if they know any information about any mysteries.

First: I will show the students a short video about different mysteries and asking students 3
unseen questions about it. Explaining briefly the meaning of mystery.
Then: I will explain the meaning of the target vocabulary, e.g., rainforest, embrace,
overpopulated, epidemic and drought.
Finally: I will ask the students to look at the photos on the right-hand side of the page and tell
them to imagine what the people are doing and to ask the students to answer ex. D, and then
read the text to check their answers.

Presentation: When writing a story:
First: Write the events in the chronological order. Use past tenses (past simple, past progressive
and past perfect)
Use linking words/phrases to indicate time and the sequence of the events, to express result,
consequence, cause, reason and to give emphasis.
Then: Use direct speech to make a situation seem real. Use questions and exclamations to make
the story more exciting.
Finally: Use expressions/phrases like:
- To my surprise, … - I couldn't believe my eyes!
- I was in / out of luck. - (Un)luckily,… / (Un)fortunately, …
Writing Plan:
When writing a story, narrate events according to the plan below
INTRODUCTION
Describe the setting of the story (time, place, weather, etc.) and introduce the main character(s)
MAIN PART (2 – 3 paragraphs)
Mention what happened, what the character(s) did, saw, heard, said, etc. and how they felt.
CONCLUSION
Describe what happened in the end and make a short comment.
