INTRODUCTION
Education encompasses both the teaching and learning of knowledge, proper
conduct, and the technical competency. Thus the teacher should focus on the cultivation of
skills, trades or professions, as well as mental, moral and aesthetic development.
Like other professions, teaching requires an extended period of specialized pre-
service and eventual licensing before a student teacher is authorized to become a full-
pledge teacher.
Student teaching is the culmination of this pre-service training. It serves as the
transitional phase between the past role of full time student and future role of full time
teacher. This is a supervised practicum designed to provide student teacher with
opportunities to apply principles, strategies in teaching, in evaluating, in testing and
grading, reporting and preparation of forms. It includes experiences that will reinforce his
skills in the preparation of instructional materials and management skills. Its major concern
is the training of prospective teachers who will professionally and socially meet the
standards that will enhance their position in the classroom, on the campus and in the
community where the will ultimately work or live.
This narrative report covers the course in practice teaching undertaken by the
practice teacher throughout the semester. It serves as the documentary proof of how he
applied in real life situation, the principles and strategies learned in school. In this report the
actual situations provide opportunities to would-be teacher to demonstrate and show how
he deals with the different learning situation. The opportunities help the student-teacher
evaluate himself and discover his strength and weaknesses in certain phases of the
teaching job by putting himself and his ideas in actual teaching situation and so how he
made a necessary adjustment in changing classroom conditions.
REFLECTION ON THE FIELD OF EXPERIENCES
Work with the Students
The learners are the soul of teaching-learning process. They are the prime
consideration in education whether it is about the curriculum, syllabus or activity. Working
with students is quite difficult but really enjoyable.
I actually had a hard time in making an adjustment with regard to dealing with the
students. I applied the proactive approach: I set the rules by giving them the do’s and
don’t’s to control the situation by preparing and preventing the possible future problems to
occur. And this, I can say help me a lot because the students know what to do and what not
and thus facilitate classroom management. Though I already establish rules to follow there
really some students that will transgress and I am telling you they are not easy to handle.
Those kinds of student are those who are struggling and currently dealing with problems.
As a teacher you should know where they come from. You must understand them first
before giving them any sanction. I did that and in turn those students become my
motivation to go to school every day as a teacher and to improve my interpersonal skills.
Sometimes students tend to be participative, keen listener, obedient sometimes they
are lazy, inactive and unruly and noisy. They have different mood. When this kind of
condition occurs I usually reflect why the learners behave this way. And there are only
three factors I consider: teacher; learner; learning process/ strategies. If I am the problem
may be I should change the way I deal with them. This reflection follows question such as
“Am I too kind to them?” because in times students misbehave even I was there. I think
they abuse the kindness I show them. Or maybe the students have their own problem and
they need to negotiate it within themselves that’s why they’re not listening and
misbehaving. It may also be the learning process or the strategies I employed that’s why
the learners misbehave because they are not interested and not motivated the way the
lesson were delivered.
I realized that for a teacher to be able to be a good and effective teacher he should
know what type of learners he is dealing with, so that he will be able to know what
strategies and activities will be effective and interactive. From the very first day I observe
how each learner behave. Learners are indeed unique individuals having different need,
want and personality. They have different abilities and different learning styles. Some
students are visual learners they learn best when they perceive or see the lesson through
visual representations such as picture, chart or film. Some are auditory their interest is
boosted when they hear what you are teaching, in my case I do lecture and I also provide
some materials containing aural stimulus such as cd and laptop that would supplement the
acquisition of knowledge for auditory learners. To address the learning style of kinesthetic
learners I provide sensory experienced activities in which they will be engage and actively
do the activities for the to learn the lesson. There are many types of students and as a
teacher it is my duty to address and cater these differences for their holistic development.
One way of doing this is to prepare variety of materials in teaching the students. Be sure
that each material is a representative of their learning style. Students sometimes are bully,
hard-headed and naughty but somehow, they are also the sweetest and kindest.
Work with the School Personnel
School personnel from cooperating school are involved in the student-teaching
program. They guided us in the operational program of the school and other pertinent data
related to the program. Working with them at first was not really easy for the reason that
they are more superior to us.
I met the principal of the school. She was very professional the way she talked and
the way she communicated with us. I was also introduced to my cooperating teacher. She
was very accommodating. She clearly defined the scope and the extent of my responsibility
and authority in class. She provided me feedback in delivering my lesson by holding a
regular conference with me to point out my strength and weaknesses. It really helped me to
improve my teaching style. Traversing my path along with my journey I met other school
personnel. I really learned a lot from them. They help me develop my interpersonal skill.
They teach me implicitly how to be a teacher, how to adjust in different situation and how to
work with professionals.
Work with the Community
Working in the school is working in the community. The school is a community of
people sharing a common interest and goal. Each individual has a role to perform that goes
with responsibility. Interacting with this kind of environment helped me to understand how I
should function in a society. It helped me understand my role, my responsibility and my
duty. The community unleashed my potential as a teacher. It helped me realized who I am.

WEEKLY LOG ACTIVITIES
Week 1 (December 05 to 09, 2016)
It was my first day to report at University of La Salette high school department as a practice
teacher. I feel so excited because we will be oriented by the principal with the policies and
regulations of the school. The principal introduced us to the faculty and staff. We were also
introduced to our department coordinator after she had given the key of my home room. I will be
handling 14 sections: six grade 8 and eight grade 10. I am going to meet them once a week each
section. I feel nervous because I will be handling an advisory class. For a few minutes all the
students moved into the assembly area. I called the name of my students they are 42 in total-22 girls
and 20 boys. My advisory section was St. Marie Eugenie, SJ-105. I conducted an orientation proper
with my advisory class. I started with the prayer then I introduced myself to them. I also asked them
to introduce themselves to have a glance about their personality and family background.
The students’ ages are ranging from 14 years old to 16 years old. We have very near age
gap. All of them already finished introducing themselves. I gave them a bit information about how I
become a teacher. All of them were amazed about my story. I also shared them my experiences
when I was in high school and college. I told them that I am the only one who graduated in our batch
in college. I left them inspiring words for them to realize how lucky they are having studied at a
prestigious school.
My first day as a teacher was never easy. After the encounter with the students I had realized
many things. Being an educator is really a tough duty. You can’t be an educator if you, yourself is an
ignorant of what you are teaching or saying. You can’t be an educator if you don’t know how to deal
with your students in different situations. You can’t be an educator if you are not aware of who your
students are because to be an educator is to mold and transform your students to be at their best.
How can you transform them if you don’t know their strengths and weaknesses? “There are many
things that I really need to know and develop for me to be called as an educator”, I told myself.
Before having an encounter with my students I am actually hesitating if I’m going to continue
teaching because I also want to work in Manila as a Programmer since it is really my field and I can
have a better income. But it’s not actually about the money, the encounter I had with my students
made me to wholeheartedly decide and embrace teaching. I realized that imparting and molding
students is what my heart desires. The income of a teacher though not high as the other professions
doesn’t matter anymore as long as you feel that you inspire and help students build their dreams it’s
worth it. And if you love your worked whether the income is high or low you will accept it. And this
is why education is the noblest profession.

WEEKLY LOG ACTIVITIES
Week 2 (December 12 to 16, 2016)
It was my second week meeting with the students but my first day to have a class
discussion. I prepared my lesson and a powerpoint presentation for the students. The
lesson
was about using appropriate hand tools and test equipment. Though I was well prepared
with my lesson I still have the feeling of nervousness especially when I think about talking
in front of the students all throughout the period. I followed the flow of my planned lesson. I
started with a prayer. To prepare and get the attention of the students I asked stimulating
questions relating to hand tools and equipment. The students were very participative in the
discussion, however there were students that were noisy and unruly. I immediately called
the attention of those noisy and unruly students to prevent them in destructing the whole
class.
After the discussion we had our group activity. Before I proceeded in teaching them
the proper way of using and handling tools and equipment I had taught them the safety
procedures in using tools. They listened attentively and watched me while I demonstrate
the proper way of handling tools. At the end of the presentation I related the lesson in real
life situation by giving them question such as “Why do we need to know independently how
to maintain hand tools, equipment and paraphernalia?" and the like. This kind of question
triggered the students to think deeper and realize the essence of learning the lesson. The
lesson was done properly and the students had their individual activities. And once again it
tested my classroom management skills in terms of dealing with noisy and unruly students.
In my assessment the students easily absorbed the gist of the lessons. The group activity
was done successfully by students. They had their evaluation by answering their handbook.
Students have different personality. Some students are fast learner some are not,
some are behave some are noisy and unruly. This factor adds more challenge to my
teaching experience but this doesn't matter that much because I expected this and I know I
will learn a lot from this experience. And I'm excited to face another day to teach my
students once more.

WEEKLY LOG ACTIVITIES
Week 3 (January 03 to 06, 2017)
My day started with a smile since I had a good experience teaching last week. I was excited
to teach as excited as the first time I taught my students. I went to my homeroom to facilitate the
cleaning of the classroom. There were only few students in the room since it is still early. I instructed
them to clean the room and we did it together. The bell rang, a signal that it's the time to teach the
students. I went to my first period class. Our topic is all about personal entrepreneurial competency.
I always start the class with a prayer because I believe we always need God's guidance in everything
we do and I want to impart that belief and way to my students by being the example. I lead the
prayer after that I asked the students to go to their proper seats. We proceeded to lesson proper, in
the discussion I emphasized that an entrepreneur should be able to take actions that goes beyond his
job requirements and acts faster than expected. He should always be ahead of others and be able to
become a leader in the field of business, always looks for and takes action on opportunities and he
should be able to make repeated efforts or to take different actions to overcome an obstacle that get
in the way of reaching goals. While uttering those words it felt like I was also talking to myself-
lecturing myself. This made me realize that teaching will also help you learn new things. I realized
that it is not the subject matter I teach but the skills that the students should possess. It is the belief
and reasons they need to understand to have a better future ahead.

WEEKLY LOG ACTIVITIES
Week 4 (January 09 to 13, 2017)
Another days to face but I'm ready. I am happy with everything I learned and gained
for the past few weeks. Though teaching requires extra efforts for it to be successful I still
love doing it. As part of my routine I went first to my homeroom and check if there were
students inside. Since no one was inside the room I started cleaning it. The students come
after one another as minute passed by. It was my vacant period, my coordinator told me
that next week I will be the one to lead the flag ceremony. At first I was nervous thinking I
will be in front of all Sallettinian including staff and faculty but I need to be optimist and be
confident because I am a teacher. I convince myself that I can do it successfully. During the
flag ceremony I keenly observed how the teacher led and how the program proceeded.
After the flag ceremony I went to my first period class. When I arrived the students were
having conversation with each other, all of them are chatting. I remained silent until I
reached my desk. They noticed me and then they stopped conversing with each other.
That’s my way of silencing them. Once again we started our lesson with a prayer and as a
routine I asked the secretary to check the attendance. I presented series of pictures of
operating system. The pictures boost students’ motivation in learning the lesson. After I
presented the pictures I let the students realize the connection of the pictures to our lesson
by giving them question guides. I also presented the different types of operating system
and discuss each type. The students were very curious and eager to learn things about
computers. In fact they had a lot of questions about the lesson. The students learned the
concepts of operating systems. I also integrated the importance of installing the operating
system for them to value their learning and for them to know where and when to use the
knowledge that they acquired. We generalized what they have learned. After which they
answered their book activities.
My day ended. I am physically tired, mentally exhausted but emotionally happy. I
know I made this day productive and I know this day is worth remembering. The best thing
is the feeling that I know in my heart I imparted something to the students and that means I
had made contribution for their future.

WEEKLY LOG ACTIVITIES
Week 5 (January 16 to 20, 2017)
I think this week will be the most challenging week for me because I will lead the flag
ceremony.
I went to school early to condition myself for the duty that was assigned to me. I’m
quite nervous about this activity though it is just an ordinary event. Leading a flag ceremony
was not an ordinary thing to me. It was my first time to face all the people in that institution.
When I arrived at school I went first to my homeroom to check if there were
students. I found out that the students were already cleaning the room so I went to the
assembly area. I waited for the time to come. At exactly 7:15 the bell rang, I started to call
the attention of the students to proceed to the assembly area. The students and faculty and
staff proceeded to the assembly area peacefully. I lead the prayer and lead the hymn
singing of national anthem. I also made some announcements with regard to the
registration fee of the ICT club and the like. I felt relief when I’m done with everything. I
went to my first period class and started my lesson. My lesson was all about peopleware,
software and hardware. Teaching students become easy as time gone by. I can say that I
am not in my adjustment term anymore. I can say that I am improving in terms of delivering
information to students and communicating results to my head.
My co-teacher borrowed my time for section 102. She said they will make project.
We had our agreement verbally. But the principal roam around and noticed that in section
102 there was no teacher monitoring the students and found out that that time was my
time. I defend myself by saying that I had agreement with my co-teacher but still my head
told me that it is not valid reason because we should have our letter before we can borrow
someone else’s time. So my head gave me a memo for negligence of duty. Though I know
it’s not my fault but it’s okay with me, at least I learned my lesson.
This week is somewhat depressing because of what happened but the most
important thing is that I learned something.

WEEKLY LOG ACTIVITIES
Week 6 (January 23 to 27, 2017)
I went directly to the office when I arrived at the school. Ma’am Bangloy told me that the
Principal will be observing me today. I was shocked. My heart was beating fast and I was sweating.
I was prepared. I had have my lesson planned, my visual aids in a form of powerpoint and I know
my lesson well because it is my specialization but preparedness really can’t surpass the shocked I
felt about news that I had heard. I started to calm myself and tried to focus myself on the topic that I
will be discussing. I went to my first period, luckily the principal wasn’t there yet. This helped me to
master more my lesson and discover new strategy to deliver my lesson. The bell rang for the next
period. I was more relax than I was with my first period. When I arrived at my second period class,
the Principal was already there. The nervousness crept inside me. But I tried to overcome it. I kept
myself calm and tried to focus on the lesson once again. Successfully, I delivered my lesson. I had
a post conference with principal after that. She told me her observations, my strength and my
opportunities. Some of the positive comments were: the students were participative because of the
motivation I gave them; the class were lively for the whole period that means I was able to sustain
their interest all throughout the period; I was able to deliver the lesson successfully; I was able to
emphasize that the students should be able to master first the lesson before I proceed to other
lesson. While the things that I need to improve were: my communication skills and the sequence of
the lesson.
It is not easy having an observer while you are delivering your lesson but I would love to
have another round with Ma’am P because I know I will learn something and improve something.

WEEKLY LOG ACTIVITIES
Week 7
This week was a dutiful week. We were asked to submit table of specification as well
as the test questionnaire for the examination. Preparing of TOS is easier than preparing
test questions. My cooperating teacher guided me in preparing TOS after that she asked
me to prepare a 60-item questions for the grade 8 students and another 75-item questions
for the grade 10 students. I had a hard time constructing a question in multiple choice type
of test because as we know each distractor must be plausible and the stem must be valid.
The test should contain all the learning areas that I have discussed. It should contain
variety of test to be fair. I asked my cooperating teacher to check it before we submit it to
principal. In result I got multiple rejections in my firsts drafts but at the end I learned.
Week 8
The examination was nearly approaching this week we have done review on our past
lessons. Before I started my review with the students I shared some of my techniques in
reviewing my lesson during my school days. I also asked the students to share their
technique that might help their classmates in improving their learning style. We recall some
of the concepts we discussed and then I also impart some test taking skills.
Week 9
This week we were required to submit the grades of the student and to conduct a
general meeting with parents. It was very stressful week because we were not allowed to
let the students check their paper so we were the one to do it. Can you imagine each
section has 50-60 students and I am handling 14 sections and we were oblige to check the
paper of the students and compute their grades in less than five days? Well that’s what
makes teaching the noblest profession. I am not complaining. I am just amazed. I didn’t
know what to do. Whenever I had vacant time I check papers of the students. At last little
by little I finish it. Right after finishing checking the students’ test paper I started to record it
and compute for their grade. It was indeed a toxic week.
Week 10
This week was focus on the preparation of the foundation day of ULS. I was
assigned as the sounds and lights director of the concert. I downloaded some music and
mixed it. I was there all throughout the practice to rehearse the music with the participants.
The foundation day develop each teacher and student interpersonal skills through
socialization. This event also bind us to achieve one goal and to showcase our talents.
Week 11
This week was the most awaited week of my practice teaching experience. This
week I prepared my instructional materials for my final demonstration teaching. The
demonstration teaching will be the basis of what I improved all throughout the course.
During my final demonstration I was observed by the Dean and two instructors. I
was nervous but I reminded myself that what I’m going to do is just to teach students the
way I did before. I convinced myself that it was just like an ordinary day.
