UNIT 3.

VERBO “TENER” EN TIEMPO PRESENTE.


El verbo tener en tiempo presente. Primera, segunda y tercera persona del modo
singular. Primera, segunda y tercera persona del modo plural. Formulación de
oraciones completas para comunicar datos personales, utilizando el verbo tener.

Present simple- TO HAVE.


Used alone (US) or followed by got (UK); the verb “ to have” expresses possession.

 You can use the affirmative of “to have” to show that you possess something
right now.
 You can use the negative of “to have” to show that you don’t possess
something right now.
 You can use the question form of to ask someone if they possess something
right now.

“Para la forma negativa usaremos el auxiliar do not – don’t /does not - doesn’t
dependiendo del sujeto; para las preguntas usamos los auxiliares do/does “

Affirmative Negative Interrogative

I have a cat. I do not have a cat. Do I have a cat?

You do not have two


You have two pets. Do you have two pets?
pets.

He/She/It does not have Does he/she/it have


He/She/It has dark hair.

We do not have an

USOS COMUNES DE TO HAVE.

To have se usa en muchos contextos en los que en español se usaría tener, haber e
incluso dar. Veamos algunos ejemplos en los que se usa to have.

LAS POSESIONES.

Se usa TO HAVE para hablar de algo que uno posee, incluyendo hijos y mascotas.

I have three dogs. My sister has two kids. We have a new couch.
She has a big house.
LOS ATRIBUTOS FISICOS.

TO HAVE para mencionar atributos físicos.

Mary and Sally have green eyes.


My sister has long hair.
Tom has a mustache and a tattoo of a bear.

CITAS.

TO HAVE se usa para hablar de citas y obligaciones.

I have an appointment on Tuesday.


She has class now.
We have a meeting at noon.

Errores que debes evitar

 Uno muy frecuente es usar este verbo para decir la edad, para hacerlo, se usa
el verbo be:
I have twenty years. (INCORRECT)
I am twenty years old. (CORRECT)

 Cuidar de no confundir con el have got, tiene el mismo significado que have e
igual cambia en terceras personas, pero no utiliza el auxiliar “do/does”.

Ejemplos:

Dana has got a book. (UK) Dana has a book. (US)


Has Dana got a book? Does Dana have a book?
Dana hasn't got a book. Dana doesn't have a book.
