B. ACTIVITY
 Now, I have prepared another activity to
help you have a prior knowledge of our
lesson.
 Let us read the Direction.

 Great! You did a wonderful job in

providing possible answers in the first
activity. Now let us connect your responses to
the following questions.

C. ANALYSIS
 How do you find the first activity?  It was a very interesting activity.
 Based on the activity, are the sentences
structured similarly? Explain your answer.  Yes, because both sentences have a
subject, a verb and an object.
 Why do you think it is important to
identify whether a sentence is written in
the passive voice or active voice?  So that we will know when to use the
active and passive voice in ways of
communication.
 How can this activity develop your skills in
constructing active voice or passive voice
sentences?  This activity will surely help me to
construct sentences easily.
 Well done! You have successfully made a
meaningful connection after answering
the previous activities. Now you are all set
for the discussion about active voice
and passive voice.

D. ABSTRACTION
 Voice doesn’t mean the sound you make
when you speak. Voice refers to the form
of a verb that indicates whether the
subject of the sentence is doing the action
or is the receiver of the action.
 A sentence is written in an active voice
when the subject does the action. In other
words, the subject performs the action.
Please read the Example  The dog ate the fish.
 In this Example, what is the Subject?  The Dog
 The Verb?  Ate
 And the Object is?  The fish
 Great! This means that in this example,
the doer of the action is the dog, and the
verb “ate” is in the active voice. Therefore,
the sentence “The dog ate the fish” is in
active voice.

 Here is another example in active voice.

Read it.  The father gave money to the boy.
 Alright! Your turn. Give me one example of
an active voice. (gives example)
 Good! Do you now understand an active
voice?
 Do you have any questions and
clarifications regarding active voice?
 Now, Let’s learn passive voice. A sentence
is written in passive voice when the action
is done to the subject. In other words, the
subject receives the action. Read this
example.  The fish was eaten by the dog.
 The verb is?
 And the subject is?
 In this example, the action is done to the
subject and the verb “was eaten” is in
passive voice.
 Here is another example.  The money is given by the old father to
the boy.
 So, when do we use active or passive
voice?
 We use active voice usually or whenever
we can. And we use passive voice when:
 How can we convert active voice to
passive voice or vice versa? We simply
make the object of the active voice the
subject of the passive voice sentence. See
the given examples.

 Do you understand now?

 Do you have questions and clarifications
regarding passive voice?

E. APPLICATION  Yes Ma’am.

 It seems you don’t have any questions, so
let us have another activity. I will group  None
you into 4. You must cooperate and work
with your co-members to come up with
the correct answer.

Directions: Identify the subject of the sentence

and underline it. Identify the verb of the
sentence and circle it. Then rewrite the
sentence in passive form. Write your answers
in your activity notebook.

1. The policeman caught the burglar.

2. She is writing a story.
F. GENERALIZATION 3. Moira sings lovely songs.

5. You should respect your elders.

 What is active Voice?  VOICE refers to the form of a verb that

indicates whether the subject of the
 What is Passive Voice? sentence is doing the action or is the
receiver of the action.
 What is the difference between these two  A sentence is written in an active voice
voices? when the subject does the action.
 A sentence is written in passive voice
when the action is done to the subject.

 Active voice is more forceful and direct

of the two, so more often we use it
regularly in our daily communication.
