10 COMMANDMENTS FOR LECTORS

1. Thou shall not read from loose sheets or missalettes


It is only for PARTICIPATION and PREPARATION and not PROCLATION
Ang tanda ay sumasagisag at sumasalalamin sa mga makalangit na bagay na ipinaalala at

ipinakikita sa atin

What we do is a communal act


We are proclaiming not to the microphone but to the community gathered

2. Thou shall not announce numbers of pages, scriptures and verses or the summary statements

attached to the readings


3. Thou shall not add words to the texts, such as “and this is …Brothers and sisters,,and the word of
the Lord
Ritual Language-do not add words to the text
4. Thou shall avoid distracting movements

Ex..pagsusuot ng salamin sa lecturn


Itapat lang ang microphone sa bibig, Huwag pagala-galawin

Alalahanin ang pahina ng babasahin ninyo


Kabisaduhin ang pagbasa at kubng anong pahina


Alamin ang kung ano ang reference sa Ordo(Panahon, ika-ilang lingo at kung anong araw)

Kapag ang pagbasa ay may karugtong sa akabilang pahina, hawakan na ang pahina

5. Thou shall not announce intercessions or announcements or proclaim scripture without first
practicing the words out loud
Practisin na ibinubuka ang bibig kapag nagbabasa
Practice the words out loud

6. Thou shall not overdo the instructions such as sit, stand, kneel nor overstate the obvious, as in

“the responses for the day…or the psalm is….”


Do not overstate the obvious
Huwag lituhin ang mga tao

7. Thou shall not run from or toward the pulpit


Hindi dapat nagmamadali


Hindi magandang may maaksidente saa paglilingkod

8. Thou shall not begin to proclaim God’s word while people are still shifting their posture from one

position to another

9. Thou shall not simply read God’s word, as though it were a novel or a citation from the telephone
directory

10. Thou shall not forget the privilege and responsibility accorded you as a minister of the word

Lectuors’tips:

1. Spend time praying through the passage for enightenment and understanding that comes from God
2. Understand to better serve the [Link] peopleogf God, You may use bible diaries or the
sambuhay for better understanding
3. Practice.
Plan to practice readings aloud if you weant to do your best and not to stumble overwords
or mispronounce them

If you come across difficult words that you aren’t sure how to pronoubnce, research and
find help thru googl;e pronunciation by audio version (specially if English)

You may find it helpful to ask someone to give you feedback as yopu practice before you
serve

4. Observe punctuation marks


Stop at periods and allow comma’s to break your phrase
5. Consider yopur tone

Remember the context. It would be inappropriate to insert mood that does not reflect the
passage(Ex. Passage like the Resurrection, one should not read l;ike you are reading the bad news,

the incarnation of the birth of Christ should produce Joy if you are re reading prophet words or
rubuke or dialogue between Jesus and the Pharisees. It should not sound the same as the passage
of the Annunciation
6. Read with feelings. Read with expression in your voice that reflects the passage
7. But not TOO MUCH FEELINGS. Avouid turning inyo dramatic reading of the scripture
8. Don’t use the preacher’s voice.
Remember that you are trying to draw attention to the readings and not to yourself
Thisnis not the time to try your good voice or favorite gesture like pointing your nhands to

someone.

9. Be careful not to swallow your words. Sometimes you have the tencency to trail off at the end of
the sentence and make it difficult to hear and understand swallow your words
10. Wghen you conclude don’t forget to say “The Word of the Lord”.
