Lesson Plan: Identifying a Research Problem

Identify a research problem
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to articulate the significance of identifying a research
problem in the context of academic research.
2. Students will be able to formulate a research problem statement based on their
interests and observations.
3. Students will be able to evaluate existing research problems and suggest
possible improvements or new angles for exploration.

(1) Review
Activity: Quick Recap of Previous Lessons
Instructions:
 The teacher will ask students to summarize what they learned in the last class
about the basics of research and its importance.
 Students will work in pairs to discuss the key points and then share them with the
class.
Dialogue:
 Teacher: "Can anyone tell me why research is important? What did we learn last
time?"
 Student 1: "Research helps us find answers to questions!"
 Student 2: "And it’s important for making informed decisions!"

(2) Motivation
Activity: Research Problem Brainstorming
Instructions:
 The teacher will present a short video clip showcasing various research problems
in different fields (health, environment, technology).

(3) Activity - Workshop: Crafting Research Problems


Instructions:
 Divide students into small groups.
 Each group will select a topic of interest and brainstorm potential research
problems related to that topic.
 Groups will create a poster outlining their chosen topic, three potential research
problems, and why these problems are significant.
Dialogue:
 Teacher: "Now, in your groups, choose a topic. Remember to think broadly and
creatively!"
