(M11GM-Ie-2).
represent real – life
situations using rational
functions
2. distinguishes rational
function, rational equation
and rational inequality
Prerequisite Skill:
A. Compute salaries annually, monthly, bi-monthly, weekly and bi-weekly in
excel.
B. Solve total hours of work, overtime pay and gross pay.
C. Present graphically the details or particulars of the given salary..
Prerequisites Assessment:
Before we start this
module, let us check first
what you have learned
about
expressing fractions to
decimals and percent
and vice versa by
answering the
questions below.
Title: Spreadsheet Skills Pre-Assessment
Duration: 45 minutes
Materials Needed:
Computers with spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google
Sheets)
Projector (optional for group discussion)
Handout with instructions and sample data
Instructions:
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
o Briefly explain the purpose of the activity.
o Discuss the importance of spreadsheets in computation and data
presentation.
2. Individual Task (25 minutes)
o Each student will complete the following tasks using a provided
sample data set (e.g., sales data, student grades, or survey results).
Tasks:
o Data Entry (5 minutes):
Input the provided data into a spreadsheet. Ensure accuracy
in entering values.
o Basic Computation (10 minutes):
Use formulas to calculate the following:
Total (SUM) of a specified column
Average (AVERAGE) of a specified column
Maximum (MAX) and Minimum (MIN) values in a
specified column
o Data Visualization (10 minutes):
Create a simple chart (e.g., bar chart or pie chart) to visually
represent one aspect of the data.
Ensure to label the chart appropriately with a title and axis
labels.
3. Group Discussion (10 minutes)
o Gather students to share their experiences and findings.
o Discuss:
Challenges faced during the task
The significance of data presentation
Different ways to use spreadsheets for computation and
analysis
Evaluation Criteria:
Data Entry Accuracy: Correctly entered all provided data (10 points)
Computation Skills: Successfully used formulas to compute total,
average, max, and min (20 points)
Data Visualization: Created a clear and accurate chart with appropriate
labels (20 points)
Participation in Discussion: Contributed to the group discussion and
shared insights (10 points)
Total Points: 60
Pre-lesson Remediation Activity:
1. For Students with an Insufficient Level of Prerequisite Content-knowledge
and/or Skill(s):
The teacher will give the students more examples of how to use
spreadsheets for computations and presentations and explain it more
clearly to the students.
2. For Students with a Fairly Sufficient Level of Prerequisite Content-
knowledge and/or Skill(s):
The teacher will give the students more examples about how to use
spreadsheets for computations and presentations and let them explain
how they get it.
Introduction: Must include the following parts:
1. Time frame : 3 hours
2. RUA: At the end of the lesson the students will be able to; Identify the most
commonly used spreadsheet (Understanding), compute salaries annually,
monthly, bi-monthly, weekly and bi-weekly in excel (Applying), solve total hours
of work, overtime pay and gross pay (Applying).
3. The students will be going to Identify the most commonly used spreadsheet,
compute salaries annually, monthly, bi-monthly, weekly and bi-weekly in excel,
solve total hours of work, overtime pay and gross pay.
4. Overview of the Lesson : In this lesson you are going to Identify the most
commonly used spreadsheet, compute salaries annually, monthly, bi-monthly,
weekly and bi-weekly in excel, solve total hours of work, overtime pay and gross
pay
Student’s Experiential Learning:
Chunk 1 : Activity 1 Budget Tracker:! (Drawing attention to meaning)
Objective: Create a personal budget tracker.
Activity: Have participants list their monthly income and expenses. They can
use formulas to calculate total income, total expenses, and remaining balance.
Encourage them to use charts to visually represent their spending categories.
Chunk 2: Activity 2: Data Analysis Challenge! (Prompting
connections to prior knowledge)
Objective: Analyze a dataset using functions.
Activity: Provide a sample dataset (e.g., sales data or survey results). Ask
participants to use functions like SUM, AVERAGE, COUNTIF, and VLOOKUP to
extract insights. They should then create a summary report and a presentation
slide showcasing their findings.
Chunk 3: Activity 3: Project Management Gantt Chart! (Prompting for
effortful thinking)
Objective: Create a project timeline using a Gantt chart.
Activity: In groups, participants will outline a project plan with tasks, start dates,
end dates, and resources. They can use conditional formatting to highlight task
progress and create a visual Gantt chart to present their project timeline.
Discussion Proper: The teacher will use powerpoint presentation and a white
board in discussing the following topics;
4.5 SPREADSHEET FOR COMPUTATION AND PRESENTATION
Synthesis
Activity 4: Survey Results Presentation! (Using Examples and non-
examples)
Objective: Present survey results effectively.
Activity: Conduct a simple survey within the group (e.g., favorite hobbies). Have
participants input the results into a spreadsheet, analyze the data, and create
visual representations (e.g., pie charts, bar graphs). They will then present their
findings to the group.
RUA of a Student’s Learning: At the end of the lesson the students will be
able to; Identify the most commonly used spreadsheet (Understanding), compute
salaries annually, monthly, bi-monthly, weekly and bi-weekly in excel (Applying),
solve total hours of work, overtime pay and gross pay (Applying).
Post-lesson Remediation Activity:
Direction: Match the each
definition below on the
terms given inside the box.
Write the letter
of your answer on a
separate sheet of paper.

Activity 5: Inventory Management System
Objective: Develop an inventory tracking spreadsheet.
Activity: Participants will create a spreadsheet to track items in an
imaginary store, including item names, quantities, prices, and suppliers.
They will use formulas to calculate total inventory value and create a
dashboard with key metrics to present to the class.
