ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement
on Architectural Services

The ASEAN Agreement on Mutual Recognition Arrangement


(MRA) on Architectural Services was signed by the ASEAN
Economic Ministers on 20 November [Link] Mutual
Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Architectural Services will
facilitate the mobility of architectural professionals within ASEAN
and enhance information exchange in order to promote
adoption of best practices on standards of architectural
education, professional practices and qualifications.
Objectives
To facilitate mobility of Architects;
To exchange information in order to promote adoption of best
practices on standards of architectural education, professional
practice and qualifications;
To conform to the spirit of ASEAN co-operations based on fair
distribution of resources and benefits through collaborative
researches; and
To encourage, facilitate and establish mutual recognition of
Architects and set up standards and commitment of technological
transfer among ASEAN Member Countries.

APEC ARCHITECT
The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is an international forum
composed of twenty-one member economies within the Asia-Pacific region.
Its purpose is "to sustain the growth and development of the region for the
common good of its peoples" by encouraging trade. APEC builds on WTO
General Agreement on Trade and Services (GATS) principles for the
progressive liberalisation of trade in services through the reduction of
regulatory restrictions, leading to reciprocal agreements between member
economies where appropriate.

COMMITTEE AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES


Monitoring Committees
As part of the APEC Architect Framework, monitoring committees carry out
administrative functions for the project within participating economies. Monitoring
committees do this on the basis of delegated authority from the APEC Architect Project
Central Council.
Monitoring Committees do the following:
• Undertake assessments to determine whether applicants meet the required standard and
therefore shall be admitted to the Register as APEC Architects
• Operate the APEC Architect Register within each economy
• Where appropriate, facilitate with relevant registration authorities bilateral or multilateral
arrangements to allow APEC Architects to seek registration in other participating host
economies
• Contribute to the APEC Architect Project as a whole via Central Council
