AI-Driven Emergency Preparedness and Community Safety App
Introduction
In emergencies such as fires, medical incidents, and natural disasters, quick action is necessary.
However, in Nepal, emergency response is often delayed due to geographic barriers, weak
infrastructure, and unreliable internet connectivity.
This project aims to develop an AI-powered emergency preparedness application that works offline
and leverages AI for emergency classification. The application will send SMS alerts, provide
emergency information, and enhance preparedness using gamified learning.
Problem Statement
1. Delayed Emergency Response: Geographic and infrastructure challenges slow down
emergency services, leading to preventable losses.
2. Limited Internet Access: Many existing emergency apps rely on continuous internet
connectivity, making them ineffective in rural areas.
3. Complex or Costly Solutions: Current emergency response systems are either too
complicated or expensive for general users.
4. Lack of Community-Wide Coordination: There is no efficient system for local communities
to communicate and respond collectively to emergencies.
This project seeks to address these issues by developing an accessible, AI-powered, and offline-
enabled emergency preparedness app.
3. Project Aims and Objectives
Aims:
The project aims to develop a mobile application that improves emergency response in Nepal by
integrating AI-driven emergency classification, SMS-based alerts, and offline features.
Objectives:
1. Implement an AI module to classify emergency types and provide immediate assistance.
2. Develop an SMS-based alert system to notify authorities and nearby users.
3. Integrate offline features such as emergency maps, first-aid guides, and contact directories.
4. Provide real-time weather and disaster updates through API integration.
5. Create a user-friendly interface for accessibility by all users.
6. Implement gamified learning elements to educate users about emergency preparedness.
7. Ensure data security and privacy through encryption methods.
Literature Review
Emergency response apps are widely used in developed nations, but many rely heavily on internet
connectivity. Studies highlight the need for offline emergency solutions, particularly in rural areas
with poor network infrastructure.
AI-based emergency classification has shown success in detecting natural disasters and medical
emergencies. SMS-based alert systems have also been effective in reaching communities without
internet access. Gamification has been proven to increase user engagement and learning in
emergency preparedness.
This project builds on these principles, adapting them to Nepal's specific needs.
Deliverables
1. A fully functional mobile application with emergency detection and SMS alert features.
2. Faster, community-wide emergency response.
3. Offline access to essential emergency resources.
4. A user-friendly and engaging experience.
5. Gamified learning to enhance emergency preparedness.
6. Secure and reliable communication to ensure data privacy.
