Character & Leadership
Extracurricular Activities & Awards
In paragraph form, describe an example of your leadership, good
citizenship and character at school or in the community.
I have served as the "OneBlood" blood drive liaison for three years at my high
school. OneBlood is a blood donor collection organization based out of Florida. It
has operations predominantly in the southeast. I started working with them in my
sophomore year because I wanted to be involved in something that would give
back to my community and provide me the opportunity to be a servant leader.
Initially, I contacted the local OneBlood office in Charlotte, NC, and shared that I
was interested in hosting a blood drive on our high school campus. One of their
blood drive coordinators called and walked me through the entire program and
process. We determined that the next step was to meet with my principal and get
approval. That meeting went well, and I got the approval.
My OneBlood coordinator and I then agreed on a date and she suggested different
types of marketing to get the word out. Oneblood shared graphics/templates that I
used for a school student, faculty and parent email blast. I also posted printed
flyers and made announcements over the school PA system about the drive. From
that marketing, I booked ten donors. On the day of the event, I was so excited
when I saw the OneBlood bus pull onto campus. I greeted my ten donors
personally and shared with them that they were doing a great thing. I even
donated myself for the very first time, getting over my fear of needles.
I've now hosted seven blood drives on our campus, and it's grown to over twenty-
five donors each drive after the first one. Two donation buses now come to our
campus each drive to service all the donors in an expeditious manner. As a
servant leader I've exhibited initiative, listening, focus, communication, follow
through and gratitude. Organizing these drives taught me the intricacies of
volunteer teamwork and how small actions contribute to meaningful community
impact.

Work Experience
In paragraph form, describe work experience including dates of
employment.
I'm very interested in a business career and am already a young entrepreneur.
Playing Lacrosse for my high school and several travel teams meant not having
the time to get a traditional job as my schedule was pretty busy.
I turned to starting my own business in the Spring of 2023 so that I could create
my own hours and earn more than I would in a normal hourly job. I started a lawn
care service called "Colin's Cuts" in April of 2023 and in 2025 it is still operating.
Working with my Dad, we created an outline of the business plan. I negotiated the
acquisition and financing of equipment, created a logo, established a phone
number, and then developed a flyer. Through a little market research I determined
my target neighborhoods and marketed to prospective clients by canvassing each
neighborhood with my flyers. After receiving several calls, and visiting with
possible clients, I perfected my estimating process. Once clients accepted my
proposal, I scheduled them for service. I've been running Colin's Cuts for three
years now and have over 10+ regular decent sized accounts. It's taught me the
importance of client relations, upkeep of machinery/equipment, billing,
scheduling/time management, employee management, and goal setting. Best
part is I've been able to set my own hours and I bought my own truck with money
earned.
Another business that I'm involved in is, "Squeeky Scrubs". My sister and I began
Squeeky Scrubs, a natural homemade body scrub, in 2021 and have been
partners since opening. Squeeky Scrubs has sold over 1000 jars of body scrubs
and my primary responsibilities have been digital marketing via promotional
emails to our database and Instagram posts, sales, production, and shipping. We
continue to sell Squeeky Scrubs to this day at farmers markets, direct to our
database and capitalize on consumer holiday needs.
Both businesses are part time and somewhat seasonal while I attend high school
and play lacrosse but provided meaningful, hard work and income!
Essay Questions
How has your Seabee Sponsor influenced your decision to attend college
or trade school?
My Grandfather, Charles E. Bradley, retired as a Master Chief from the US Navy
and finished his Naval career in the Seabees. He spent 30 years serving our
Country between active duty and the reserves. He's shared that his experiences
both internationally and domestically in the Navy as well as his college education
post his active service have helped shape his life. My Grandfather says that if he
could do it over again, he would have gone to college first and then entered active
duty vs the other way around. His college degree helped him to secure an
excellent job in the accounting/finance field following college which then led to a
long/successful career in the manufacturing industry culminating as a Chief
Financial Officer and Treasurer of an international company. My Grandfather and
our family have placed value in higher education. In listening to him I believe his
college experience also gave him knowledge in business, independence,
responsibility, the ability to manage due dates/deadlines, critical thinking, people
skills, communication skills and taught him problem solving life skills that have
helped him to be successful in life. With a Seabee scholarship I'll now have the
opportunity to learn everything my Grandfather did at college without having to
serve on active duty first. I aspire to walk in his footsteps of a successful career
and life but hope to be able to attend college first as he has suggested. This
Seabee scholarship will help me do just that.
What would receiving this scholaship mean to you aside from finanicial
assistance?
It would be a huge honor! To be awarded a scholarship like this is something that
I know only few will receive. The Seabees have been an important part of my
Grandfather's life so receiving it would not only make him proud to know the
Seabees were helping his grandson but would make me proud for him to know I
was worthy of it. It will make me want to work incredibly hard to show that I put
this scholarship to good use and to show him as well as the Seabees that these
funds were well spent educating and developing a future young leader that will
make a positive difference in the world!
What do you hope to accomplish while attending college or trade school
other than earning a degree?
I've set a goal to graduate with a bachelor's degree in international business in 4
years. From classroom work I will learn about business marketing, management,
public speaking, basic accounting, conducting business in other countries with
different cultures, foreign language expertise and about supply chain
logistics/management. Outside of the classroom I will learn important life skills for
success- problem solving, critical thinking, time management, independence,
communication, teamwork and the values most important now and in the future to
be the best I can be while giving back to my community.
What is a non-academic accomplishment you are proud of?
I'm a 3 Time Varsity Lacrosse State Champ & 3yr Varsity letterman at Lake
Norman Charter High School in NC! We're going for our 4th State Championship in
the Spring of 2025.
As a Freshman I made the team and as a Sophmore transitioned to be a faceoff
specialist at the request of our coach. As this was a position that could most help
the team to be successful I learned the new position and won the starting faceoff
job as a Junior. I'm really proud of our team and that my hard work to learn this
new role helped us to win the State Championship!
