CORE VALUES OF A CRIMINOLOGIST
1.ACCOUNTABILITY
We must be accountable for our actions and decisions. As criminology
students, this will benefit us in any way, especially when we finally become
law enforcers or take on whatever line of work we choose. We are the
leaders of ourselves. We must take accountability for whatever our actions
might lead to, even if it will lead to bad or good results. We shouldn’t blame
other people just to feel at ease.
2. ACHIEVEMENT
For me, achievement can be defined in any way. As a criminology student, I
could define achievement in small things, starting with achievements in
performance tasks, quizzes, reports, and exams. I celebrate my
achievements; it depends. In the near future, achievements will play a very
important role in being a Criminologist, especially when you get promoted in
your chosen line of work.
3. BALANCE
Striving for balance often means ensuring that different perspectives or
needs are respected and accounted for, creating a fair environment. As a
crim student, we must balance everything our needs and wants especially
about our responsibility to our family, school, and ourselves. It will be
manifested being a Criminologist someday in the sense that we already
practice how are we going to balance our time too.
4. COMMITMENT
It refers to being dedicated to a cause, activity, or relationship. Being a crim
student we must uphold the values of commitment or being committed and
taking responsibility for what we choose. This also includes fulfilling promises
and obligations. Shortly this will play a very big essential part when you
become a Criminologist we must expect that we would carry a big
responsibility. We must instill in our minds that we have obligations that we
must do. It will be manifested being a Criminologist in a way that during our
school days, we are able to practice it so that we can surely apply it in our
work.
5. CALMNESS
It refers to a state of being free from agitation, excitement, or disturbance.
For a short-tempered person like me. I must uphold the values of Calmness.
To decide what is right and what will be the most beneficial for everyone. It
will be manifested being a Criminologist in the sense that we must be calm
on making a decision for ourselves and for our troops. For each problem that
comes our way, we must be calm so that we can decide or think of a better
solution.
6. CHALLENGE
A challenge refers to a task, situation, or condition that requires a significant
effort or skill to overcome. Being a crim student it is very challenging for us
to survive every day, we all know that being a student is very tiring but at the
same time satisfying. It is also a very challenging battle for our parents who
work really hard just to provide for us. It will be manifested being a
Criminologist in the sense that we are the ones who won our battle. Being a
student is challenging but being a Criminologist will be more difficult because
we are dealing with what is the reality that we can’t just give up if we feel
tired. We must remain strong.
7. DISCIPLINE
It refers to the practice of training oneself to adhere to certain rules,
standards, or behaviors, often involving self-control and the ability to
maintain focus on long-term goals. As a criminology student, one of the core
values of our school is Discipline. We must instill discipline in ourselves. It
involves the ability to manage impulses and emotions, allowing individuals
to make thoughtful choices aligned with their goals and values. It will be
manifested as Criminologists if we have discipline in ourselves so that we
know how to act in front of other people.
8. ENJOYMENT
It refers to a sense of pleasure or satisfaction derived from experiences,
activities, or interactions. As a crim student, it might be hard for us but the
important thing is we manage to enjoy ourselves somehow because of the
people surrounding us. It will be manifested being a Criminologist that even
if it is hard will be our work in the near future the enjoyment and the
excitement we feel while helping and serving our community is very
satisfying.
9. FREEDOM
Freedom is the state of being free, where individuals have the power and
right to act, speak, or think without hindrance or restraint. As a crim student,
we must have the choice to decide or to speak what we want. We must feel
free for ourselves. It will be manifested being a Criminologist someday, in the
sense that we must have the freedom to speak if our opinion is needed, but
in a good way especially if the higher rank is spoken.
10. GROWTH
It involves understanding oneself, including strengths, weaknesses, and
areas for improvement. This self-awareness is crucial for personal
development. While we are still a student this is our training ground that will
help us to develop our strengths, weaknesses, skills, and talent. We must
take everything as a lesson for self-improvement. It will be manifested being
a Criminologist in the sense that, we are able to learn from our mistakes.
Growth is very essential value, to be a better version of ourselves and also
to become better colleagues to our co-workers.
