On Writing

The document discusses the author's disdain for formal writing formats like MLA, arguing that writing should be an entertaining and enjoyable experience for both the writer and the reader. It emphasizes the importance of creativity in writing and suggests that true writing is a form of telepathy that allows ideas to be shared and consumed. The author encourages readers to engage in both reading and writing as complementary activities that foster creativity and expression.

On Writing

Yes, the MLA formatting is intentional. Because most school writing is

either haphazard notes or this MLA B.S. I don’t understand why schools and

educational centers use such an organized system to record the poorly or

professionally written essays. (I would say “such as this one, but this is

nowhere near professional.) I hate writing this way (MLA)

This is not much better

Who does this?

Finally, a decent format. But the font size wasn’t right? What
about the font itself? And now we’re back to normal. Wasn't that little

escapade quite fun? I'm messing with you, dear reader. Play with every part

of writing. Know the rules before you break them, right? I believe so. It’s

probably why I’ve broken so many already myself.

Writing to many people (myself very much included) is a form of

entertainment. I mean, just reread what I’ve written for you, dear reader, so

far!

Writing, as a way of getting your thoughts out of your head to process

them outside of yourself, is fabulous. Stephen king said writing is ‘telepathy’

and I must concur with his assessment. It is telepathy. (in the common

definition at least). Writing is telepathic entertainment, like getting your

favorite song that you know all the lyrics stuck in your head because your

friend played a small bit of the ending.

Writing is entertainment on both sides of the pen (or in this case,

keyboard on a table made of unknown wood) for the reader (that’s you!), you

can be reading comedy, horror, sci-fi, god forbid –romance- and be

entertained. Writing should be fun!

Essays like the start of this thingamajig are not writing to me, they are

work. Work is not fun. Writing should be an entertaining experience to be

enjoyed by the writer.

Some people also ‘write’ in their journals, which I’ll call here journaling

because that is what it is, rather than writing. Yes, the act itself is written,

but to write is to release ideas into a medium, like art, that is meant to be

consumed by others, making journaling not quite true writing. Then others

absorb the ideas through observation. (Note that there is no speaking

involved, making it telepathy. Get your tinfoil hats)

If you want to understand why writing should entertain both writer and

reader, read a book. Then write down what you think. Then write more on

those ideas. Writing really is a cycle of in and out, as with breathing. In by

reading, out by writing. They're really the same process, but each is the
reverse of the other. Whatever you do when you put this down, I request that

you, dear reader, pick one of two activities: read or write.
