How can I
work
online?
Let me
explain you.
Synchronous Learning
● It is the kind of learning that happens in real time.
● You and your students interact in a specific virtual place,
through a specific online medium, at a specific time.
● Methods of synchronous online learning include video
conferencing, teleconferencing, live chatting, and live-
streaming lectures.
● The system allows students to ask their teacher or fellow
students questions instantly through instant messaging.
Asynchronous Learning
● Asynchronous learning involves coursework delivered by web, email,
and message boards that are posted in online forums.
● Students do not have access to instant messaging through this
online forum.
● Look for a comfortable place.
● Check your computer, camera, speakers and microphone.
● Check any noise that you can not control.
● Check your internet connection.
● Toilet paper or tissue.
● A glass of water.
● A piece of paper - pen / a word document.
● Open all the files /webs /apps that you are going to use.
● Have an alternative way to communicate.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Teachers, when preparing their material for online
classes, should use:
● Red, blue and green are solid colors that improve your presentation.
● Fucsia, purple and yellow can be to hard to read.
● The contrast is important.
● Check grammar and spelling “MISTAKES” before your learning session.
● Check the pronunciation of the vocabulary presented.
● Use script letters : Arial, tahoma, verdana
STARTING THE CLASS
Recommendations for the students before the class:
● Go to the bathroom
● A glass of water
● Open the App in advance (Kahoot, Mentimeter, etc)
● Download the material given by the teacher
● Have a notebook and a pen
● Tell your family members that you will be in class
Learning Session
Motivation
● Watch a video
● Look at some pictures
● Give some words
1.- Make questions about it.
2. Relate what they have seen with their
context.
● What can you see in the picture?
● Are you familiar with the character in the picture?
● What is he trying to do / to say? Why?
● What would you tell him?
•How do you manage your class efficiently?
•What aspects do you think are important for
an effective classroom management?
REMEMBER THIS:
• You should be friendly, show an interest
in the students as people.
Teacher talk
The teacher should use the level of language to be • Be patient.
understood by students. • Be tolerant.
The teacher needs to be clear, simplify the language • Be understanding.
being used rather than say, it is better to
demonstrate.
Gestures
We use gestures or pictures to clarify our instructions.
For example: you should do a writing gesture or send
a picture when you want students to write.
It is useful for low level classes.
Manner
It is vitally important to treat the students with respect.
MANAGING ONLINE LEARNING
• 1. Build an engaging online environment. There’s the area for your agenda, syllabus, assignments, and
deadlines.
• 2. Build community. Present norms and expectations, and build some together. Have small groups create
contracts about how to work together. There’s nothing more frustrating to an online student than feeling
isolated during group work.
• 3. Try to answer in an organized way. Students can get ornery when they’re confused.
• 4. Be present. Don’t leave the learning for the students to do independently without your help.
• 5. Establish norms for office hours and video conferencing. Norms include a dress code (no pajamas),
teach how to ask questions without interrupting the current speaker.
• 6. Don’t group randomly. Use criteria to group participants.
• 7. Teach about plagiarism. Explain about the illegal action of copying other´people’s ideas.
• 8. Don’t shy away from difficult conversations. Sometimes online teachers avoid going down the rabbit hole
when issues occur. Stay on top of issues as they arise. Immediately.
• 9. Use various means to contact participants.
Online learning can be an amazing experience for both the educator and the student. But the teacher must model
awareness that there are humans at every keyboard. Set up a recognizable environment that is structured and
engaging. Make sure it honors the learners in it, and you’ll have fewer issues to manage in your online class.
ENGLISH CLASS AGREEMENTS
• Welcome to the English Class these are our classroom agreements:
1. Wash your hands before starting your activities.
2. Be punctual.
3. Be respectful with others´ opinions.
4. Raise your hand if you want to talk.
5. Participate actively.
