UNDERGRADUATE THESIS AGREEMENT

Specific responsibilities of the Faculty Advisor:


 Must be available during scheduled regular meetings with students.
 Provide guidance in selecting their appropriate topics, formulation of thesis titles,
objectives and methodology. Guide the students in the analysis of their results.
 Reads thesis chapters with critical comments, in person and/or in writing.
 Give advice on publishing beyond the thesis defense, i.e. how to turn the thesis
publishable article and how, and where to publish articles.
 Advisors should be open to students' obtaining advice from other faculty members
or from the other thesis panel members.
 They should also try to ascertain when problems go beyond intellectual ones and
require some form of outside assistance.
 If necessary, act as a liaison with the department.

The Student's specific responsibilities:


 Must regularly communicate with their thesis advisor. Students must take an
active role in initiating meetings and communication with their thesis advisor.
 Must promptly and regularly inform and update their thesis adviser of the
progress of their thesis.
 Must learn to work and conduct fieldwork independently.
 To promptly submit work regularly, meet deadlines of their thesis writeup. Give the
advisor fair warning about deadlines for letters of requests or forms needed.
 Adhere to the university and departmental thesis guidelines.
 Must communicate with the advisor regarding personal problems that may impede
or hinder progress of their thesis. The University recognizes the students’ privacy
about their personal lives, but they should inform their advisors if unusually
disruptive personal matters arise that may disrupt their progress and affect the
group.
 To adhere to the established timetable for the concept defense phase (February
10-March 6, 2025) and the oral proposal defense phase (March 28-April 16, 2025)

 This thesis contract is a formal agreement between the students and their thesis adviser. In
this sense, it is an explanation of the rights and obligations that the parties have, based on
the guidelines set by the Department.
 The student/group, the thesis adviser, and the thesis coordinator as witness shall sign the
contract, and each party mentioned shall have an original copy.
