Q18.Complex tissues are made of more than one type of cells. All these cells coordinate to
perform a common function. Xylem and phloem are examples of such complex tissues. They are
both conducting tissues and constitute a vascular bundle. Xylem fibres are mainly supportive in
function. Phloem transports food from leaves to other parts of the plant. Except phloem fibres,
other phloem cells are living cells.

OR
Enlist the type of parenchyma tissue.
Q19. Archimedes’ principle, stated as follows: When a body is immersed fully or partiallyin a
fluid, it experiences an upward force that is equal to the weight of the fluid displacedby it. The
upward force is known as up thrust or buoyant force. In fact, all objects experience a force of
buoyancy when they are immersed in a fluid. The magnitude of this buoyant force depends on
the density of the fluid. Objects having density less than that of the liquid in which they are
immersed float on the surface of the liquid. If the density of the object is more than the density of
the liquid in which it is immersed then it sinks in the liquid. Hence body will float or sink
depends upon difference between density of body and fluid. (1+1+2=4)
(i)The upthrust of the body is equal to the
(a) Mass of liquid
(b) Weight of liquid
(c) Weight of liquid displaced by body
(d) None of these
(ii) When anybody immersed in liquid it experience a force called as
(a) Gravitational force
(b) Buoyancy force
(c) Nuclear force
(d) None of these
(iii) State Archimedes Principle and state any two applications of it.
OR
(iii)Define Buoyant force. When an object is immersed in a fluid, name the two forces acting on
it.
Q20.Pure substances are classified as elements or compounds. An element is a substance that
contains only one type of atom. Also, an element cannot be broken down or transformed into a
new substance even by using some physical or chemical methods.
A compound is a substance composed of two or more different types of elements, chemically
combined in a fixed proportion. The constituents cannot be separated by simple physical
methods. However, these substances can be broken down into separate elements by chemical
methods. ( 2+2=4)
a) Give four examples of compounds used in our daily life.
b) How are elements classified? Give examples.
