37 Three samples of mixtures were given to a group of students and asked to categorize as 4
solution, colloid and suspension. Students observed that constituent particles of mixture C
were visible with naked eye. They left the mixtures undisturbed for a few minutes and
observed that the particles of mixture C began to settle after some time. Then they passed all
the mixtures through filter paper and found that mixture A and B passed through the filter
paper without leaving any residue, but particles of mixture C were separated by filtration. To
identify mixture A and B, they directed a beam of light from a torch through the beaker
containing the mixture and observed from the front. The particles of mixture B scattered a
beam of light passing through it and made its path visible.

All organisms are made up of cell. Cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life.
There are two types of cell ie: prokaryotic cell and eukaryotic cell.Plasma membrane or Cell
membrane is the outermost covering of the cell that separates the contents of the cell from its
external environment. The plasma membrane allows or permits the entry and exit of some
materials in and out of the cell. It also prevents movement of some other materials. The cell
membrane, therefore, is called a selectively permeable membrane. Some substances like
carbon dioxide or oxygen can move across the cell membrane by a process called diffusion.
There is spontaneous movement of a substance from a region of high concentration to a
region where its concentration is low. Similar thing happens in cells – some substance like
CO2 (carbon dioxide is cellular waste and requires to be excreted out by the cell) accumulates
in high concentrations inside the cell. In the cell’s external environment, the concentration of
CO2 is low as compared to that inside the cell. As soon as there is a difference of
concentration of CO2 inside and outside a cell, CO2 moves out of the cell, from a region of
high concentration to a region of low concentration outside the cell by the process of
diffusion.
1.Write the composition of plasma membrane.
2. Explain plasmolysis.
3. Write four differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
OR
3. Draw a labelled diagram of a prokaryotic cell. (4 labelling)

On flicking, the card moves away but the coin drops into the glass tumbler [see Figure (b)].
1.Give reason for the above observation.

(a) Newton's second law of motion.
