ABSTRACT
This paper explores the significant impact of landmark decisions in competition law and their
effects on the development of legal principles. The study aims to investigate how key
concepts such as abuse of dominance, anti-competitive agreements, and merger control have
been interpreted and enforced in various jurisdictions. By focusing on pivotal rulings, it seeks
to illustrate the dynamic relationship between regulatory frameworks, market behaviours, and
consumer welfare. The research objectives include examining the transition from strict, rule-
based methods to more sophisticated, effects-based enforcement strategies. The study also
investigates how competition authorities modify legal principles to tackle new challenges,
especially in the digital economy, where issues like algorithmic collusion, data
monopolization, and self-preferencing require innovative regulatory approaches.
Furthermore, the research aims to compare enforcement trends across different jurisdictions,
analysing how global and regional collaboration affects the efficacy of competition law in
addressing cross-border issues.
By employing a comparative framework, the paper assesses the changing role of competition
law in promoting fair markets, encouraging innovation, and balancing public interest goals. It
highlights the importance of landmark rulings in shaping legal standards, informing policy
reforms, and addressing the emerging complexities of globalized and technology-driven
economies. This study enhances the understanding of how legal principles evolve through
landmark decisions and their wider implications for regulatory practices and economic
growth. It offers insights into the necessity for adaptable and forward-thinking legal
frameworks that can navigate the complexities of contemporary markets while upholding the
fundamental objectives of competition law.
