Situation: Carlos and Juanjo go to the movie club, and meets Ana and Flor.
They watch the
Hamlet movie. Finally, they share their opinion about this story.
Characters:
Flor: Narrator and the president of movies club
Ana: Old member of the club
Carlos: New member
Juanjo: New member
Dialogue:
Narrator: Carlos and Juanjo are going to attend the movie club for the first time, where they
will meet Ana and Flor, who are a member and the president of the club. The chosen
location is the Usina Cultural de Salta.
Carlos: Hi, excuse me, is the movie club meeting going to take place here?
Ana: Hi! Yes, it is. Welcome! How did you find out about us?
Carlos: Thanks, we found you through Usina's Instagram., and I'm super nervous because
it's my first time here.
Ana: Don't worry, everyone is very friendly here. I assure you that you will have fun. I'm Ana,
and I've been part of the club for two years. What's your name?
Carlos: Nice to meet you, Ana. My name is Carlos.
Juanjo: And I'm Juanjo! I've come with Carlos to have fun and try something new.
Ana: That's a lovely name! Tell me something about yourself.
Ana: Nice to meet you, Juanjo! It’s great that you’re joining together. Is this your first time at
a movie club too?
Juanjo: Yes, it is. I'm glad to be here and see a lot of people. I really enjoy watching movies
Ana: I’m sure you’ll both have a great time. Tell me something about you. What do you like
to do in your free time, guys?
Carlos: Well, I'm 25 years old, I work during the day, and in my free time, I watch series and
movies!
Ana: That's great! Where do you work?
Carlos: I work at a company in the industrial park of Salta. What about you?
Juanjo: I am a biologist, I work at the university and I am doing a Ph.D. In my free time I also
watch series or movies. What about you Ana?
Ana: Great! I'm also 25 years old, I study geology, and in my free time, I go for walks to clear
my mind.
Carlos Juanjo: Interesting career! By the way, what movie are we going to watch today?
Ana: It's a surprise; our president will tell us now. She's just coming over here. Hi Flor! We
have two new members; his name is Carlos and Juanjo.
Flor: Hi everyone! Nice to meet you. I'm the founder of the club.
Carlos: Hi! Thank you, it's a pleasure as well. What motivated you to join the club and be the
president?
Flor: Good question! The truth is that I have always really liked cinema. My parents are
separated, so when I was a child, I spent every Sunday with my dad; we would rent movies
and watch them while eating something. We can say that's where my love for movies began.
Carlos: Wow, what a deep story! What else do you do besides leading the club?
Flor: Right now, I'm working on my thesis to graduate as a communicator at the university.
Carlos: What a coincidence, I also have my thesis left, but with work I don't spend much time
on it. So, which movie are we going to watch today?
Flor: Wow, I like that exciting attitude. First, tell me, what genre of movies do you like?
Carlos: I like comedies and science fiction films.
Juanjo: I’m a fan of historical films and documentaries. I love stories that make you think or
teach you something new.
Ana: That 's great! I also enjoy comedies and romance films.
Flor: Those are nice tastes! I'll be paying attention to your reactions because this time the
movie we'll be watching is “Hamlet.” Do you know it?
Ana: Yes, it’s based on the play by William Shakespeare.
Carlos: William… who?
Flor: Yes, as Ana said, the movie is based on Shakespeare’s work, who was a great English
writer of plays and poetry.
Juanjo: Oh, Hamlet! I’ve read the play before, but I’ve never seen the movie. This should be
interesting.
Carlos: Wow, this is the first time I've heard of him and this movie.
Flor: The film is from 1991 and it's super interesting because it tells the story of a young
prince named Hamlet who encounters his father's ghost, who tells him that he was murdered
by his brother and that he must avenge his death.
Ana: The play is excellent; it’s a great classic. I hope the movie lives up to my expectations.
Juanjo: I’m sure it will. Classics like this usually have a way of surprising you, even if you
already know the story.
Flor: Before we start watching the movie, I want to remind you of the importance of keeping
the space clean. Please don't litter and avoid throwing junk food on the floor; there are
several containers in the area. Now, enjoy the movie!
MOVIE TIME
AFTER THE MOVIE
Narrator: The movie ends and the members must talk about it.
Flor: Well, did you like the movie? Do you have any opinions about the story or the
characters that you would like to share?
Ana: I loved the movie; it met my expectations. I liked the performance of the actor who
played Hamlet. As for the story, I think it’s very tragic. The ending doesn’t convince me
because I believe all the deaths were unnecessary, except for the deaths of Claudius and
Gertrude, because everything that happened was their fault. What I liked was that Horatio is
still alive to tell the truth to everyone.
Juanjo: I found the movie fascinating, especially how it explored themes like betrayal and
revenge. I liked the complexity of Hamlet’s character, he’s not just a hero avenging his
father; he’s also deeply flawed, which makes him feel more real. The duel at the end was
intense. I also think the movie was very faithful to the book, which made it even more
enjoyable. Even though the ending is tragic, I think it fits perfectly with the tone of the story.
Carlos: What a strange movie! I had never seen a film like this; I was surprised by how all
the characters were dying, but I liked that Hamlet was able to take revenge for his father. He
was my favorite character because of how he evolved throughout the movie, from his first
encounter with his father's ghost to the fight where he finally died.
Flor: Your opinions are very good; I like that they are varied. In my case, I thought the deaths
of the characters were appropriate. In the case of Polonius, Laertes, and Ophelia, I believe
they show the consequences that can arise from the desire for revenge. As for Claudius and
Gertrude, I think both sought their own deaths because they were complicit in the king's
murder. In Hamlet's case, I think it serves as a fitting epic ending.
Ana: Yes, in Claudio's case, I think he is a greedy and evil character.
Juanjo: Although Claudio is an evil character, Hamlet's actions end up causing the
destruction of everything that was important to him. In his quest for revenge, he loses not
only his father, but also his friends, his love, his mother and even his own life.
Flor: I liked that even though many things happen, the movie moves quickly and keeps you
engaged.
Carlos: I really enjoyed coming here. Do you have a WhatsApp group to chat with, Flor?
Flor: I'm very glad you had fun! Yes, we have a group where we coordinate which movies to
watch and when. If you want, give me your number and I'll add you.
Carlos: Sure! My number is 3875749499.
Flor: Done! You’re added now.
Juanjo: Add me to the group later too.
Ana: That’s great! I'm glad you had a good time. I hope we see each other soon.
Juanjo: Sure, Ana! We can organize another meetup soon to watch more movies together.
It’d be fun!
Carlos: Great idea! The club is really good; it's great that there are groups like this to watch
movies and talk about them. Well, I'm about to leave. How are you getting home?
Juanjo: Its early yet, I’m going to walk to Plaza 9 de Julio and then do some shopping on
Peatonal Alberdi
Ana: I'm going to take the bus at the corner of the Usina.
Flor: Me too, there's a bus stop two streets away from here.
Carlos: Okey, I'm being picked up at the mall, but I don't know how to get there. Do you have
any idea where I need to go?
Ana: Yes! You need to go through the middle of the Usina until you reach Bicentenario
Avenue, then turn left and walking along the avenue; it's a total of four streets.
Carlos: Is the mall on the Avenue or on another street?
Flor: On the Avenue.
Carlos: Okay, thank you very much. See you next time!
Flor and Ana: Bye, guys!
Juanjo: See you soon! Take care!
