Quarter 2- MODULE 4

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students CAN:
A. Determine claims of fact, policy and value in sentences;
B. Share the importance of claims in writing;
C. Formulate claims of fact, policy and value about an issue through graphic organizer; and
D. Analyze the claim and it’s supporting statement.

III.PROCEDURES
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Introduction
-Prayer. A student will be requested to lead the prayer.
-Greetings. The teacher says good morning/good afternoon.
-Checking of attendance. The teacher will check the attendance.
-Classroom rules. The teacher will present the classroom rules.

-The teacher will ask the learners about their previous lesson.

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. DISCUSSION
Claims- is supported by evidence, which can be debated or challenged.
-are statements about what is true or good or about what should be done or believed.
Characteristics of a good claim:
 A claim should be argumentative and debatable.
 A claim should be specific and focused.
 A claim should be interesting and engaging.
 A claim should be logical. It should result from reasonable weighing of support provided.

TYPES OF CLAIM
1. Claim of facts
o are grounded with factual evidence that is sufficient, reliable, and
appropriate.
o These are statements about how things were in the past, how they are in the
present, or how they will be in the future.
o It can also be factual or historical, relational or predictive.

Examples:
a. Social distancing is important during the coronavirus pandemic.
b. Covid- 19 is deadly.
2. Claims of value
o It expresses approval or disapproval about something that attempts to show that
something is wrong or right.
o Claims that is based on preference such as likes or dislikes, good or bad.

Examples:
a. Honesty is the best policy.
b. Safety is more important than freedom.

3. Claims of policy
o Are specific statements on procedures or laws that need to be modified based on
certain issues or conditions.
o Ask for plans of action to solve current problems.

Examples:
a. Uniforms should be required at all public high schools.
b. Texting while driving should be an offense punishable by jail time.

2. Application
