Unit 1 Let’s Spread Peace


Lesson Saying “Assalāmu Âlaykum” and “Wa
Âlaykumus Salām

I. Objectives:

1. Cognitive: Learners will be able to recognize and understand the


meanings of the Islamic greetings "Assalamu Alaikum" and "Wa
Alaikumussalam."
2. Affective: Learners will appreciate the importance of polite greetings in
fostering a peaceful and respectful environment.
3. Behavioral: Learners will practice using the greetings "Assalamu
Alaikum" and "Wa Alaikumussalam" in appropriate social contexts.

II. Content:

 Topic: Polite Greetings in Islam


 Key Vocabulary:
‫( السالم عليكم‬Assalamu Alaikum): Peace be upon you
‫( وعليكم السالم‬Wa Alaikumussalam): And upon you be peace

 Concepts: Understanding the importance of using polite greetings


as a sign of respect and to spread peace.

2. Storybook: A storybook or short story featuring characters using
Islamic greetings.
3. Visual Aids: Flashcards with the greetings and their meanings
Pictures showing different situations where these greetings might be

Props or puppets for role-playing

IV. Procedures:

A. Preliminary Activities:

1. Drill:

 Activity: Quick review of the greetings "Assalamu Alaikum" and


"Wa Alaikumussalam."
 Method: Use flashcards with the Arabic phrases and their
meanings. Have students repeat the words and match them with
pictures of people greeting each other.

2. Review:

 Activity: Review the importance of using polite greetings.


 Method: Discuss how greetings are used in different cultures and
why they are important in Islam. Show pictures of people greeting
each other in various settings.

3. Motivation:
 Activity: Show a short animated video or picture story featuring
characters using the greetings.

 Activity: Read a short story or show a video where characters use


"Assalamu Alaikum" and "Wa Alaikumussalam."

‫ "وعليكم السالم يا سامي‬:‫"!رد عادل مبتسًم ا‬

‫ "مرحبا سامي! كيف حالك؟‬:‫"فاطمة قالت‬

‫ وكيف حالكم أنتم؟‬.‫ شكًر ا‬،‫ "أنا بخير‬:‫"أجاب سامي‬

‫ الحمد لله‬،‫ "نحن بخير أيًض ا‬:‫قالت فاطمة‬."

‫ وبدأوا يلعبون ويستمتعون‬،‫ثم جلس سامي وعائلته معهم في الحديقة‬


‫بوقتهم‬.

English Translation

In the Peaceful Park

One beautiful day, Sami and his family went to the park. When they
arrived, they saw their friends, Adel and Fatima, sitting on the
swing.

Sami said, "Assalamu Alaikum, Adel and Fatima!"

Adel replied with a smile, "Wa Alaikumussalam, Sami!"

Fatima said, "Hello Sami! How are you?"

Sami answered, "I am fine, thank you. And how are you?"

Fatima responded, "We are fine too, Alhamdulillah."


Then Sami and his family joined them in the park, and they started
playing and enjoying their time together.

 Method: Emphasize the context and usage of the greetings.

2. Performing the Activity (Differentiated Instruction):


 Activity:
 Activity 1: For visual learners, use flashcards and a chart to
illustrate different scenarios where the greetings are used.
Have students match the greetings to the correct scenarios.
 Activity 2: For auditory learners, listen to an audio recording
of conversations where the greetings are used and discuss the
meaning and importance.
 Activity 3: For kinesthetic learners, use role-play. Set up
scenarios where learners practice greeting each other with
"Assalamu Alaikum" and responding with "Wa
Alaikumussalam."
3. Processing the Activity:
 Activity: Facilitate a group discussion where learners share their
experiences with using greetings and practice saying them
correctly.
 Method: Encourage learners to use the new vocabulary in their
sentences and discuss why using polite greetings is important.
4. Summarizing the Lesson:
 Activity: Recap the key points of the lesson.
 Method: Use a simple review game or a visual summary where
students match greetings with their meanings or use them in
sentences.

C. Assessment:

Direction: Learners will match the correct greeting with its response and
context.
