Article Review for ARC 712 - Architectural Research Methods
Objectives:
1. Critical Analysis: Develop the ability to critically analyze and evaluate academic research.
2. Research Skills: Enhance research methodology skills.
3. Scholarly Writing: Improve scholarly writing and academic argumentation skills.
4. Subject Knowledge: Deepen understanding of current issues and trends in architectural research.
Assignment Requirements:
1. Journal Selection:
- Students will select 2 articles from a list of reputable architectural journals (e.g., Journal of
Architectural Education, Architectural Research Quarterly, Journal of the Society of Architectural
Historians).
- Alternatively, students can propose a journal not on the list, subject to the course lecturers’ approval.
2. Review Components:
- Introduction: Briefly introduce the journal, including its scope, target audience, and impact on the
field.
- Article Summaries: Summarize 2 recent (2022-2024) articles from the journal, highlighting the aim
and objectives, main research questions, methodologies, and findings.
- Critical Analysis: Critically analyze the selected articles. Discuss the types, strengths and weaknesses
of the methodologies used, the significance of the findings, and how they contribute to the field of
architecture (contributions to knowledge)
- Thematic Connections: Identify and discuss any common themes or trends that emerge from the
articles.
- Conclusion: Summarize the essence of the articles and offer recommendations for future issues or
areas of improvement.
3. Format and Length:
- Length: 3000-4000 words
- Format: Follow the APA citation style
- Times New Roman, Font 12, double spacing and justified.
4. Assessment Criteria:
- Comprehensiveness: Thorough coverage of journal and articles.
- Critical Thinking: Depth of analysis and critical thinking.
- Writing Quality: Clarity, coherence, and scholarly writing style.
- Research Rigor: Appropriateness and rigor of research methods used in the journal articles.
- Presentation: Adherence to formatting guidelines and overall presentation.
Submission:
Submit a soft-binded copy of the assignment latest by 12pm on the 25th of June, 2024. Bind the
assessment following this format: Title page, certification, article 1 followed by the review of article 1,
article 2 followed by the review of article 2.
