2. Go to YouTube. Watch/listen to Black-eyed Peas’ “Where is the love?” Sing it. Then, write
your reflections on the song—at least one page, size A4, font Calibri # 12, double-spaced.
3.
Answer:
For background, “Where Is the Love” is a song by The Black Eyed Peas that reflects on
the September 11th attacks and the United States’ response to terrorism. It explicitly addresses
various social justice issues such as the protest of unnecessary violence, police brutality, and
discrimination based on race (including refugee and immigration issues), gender and religious
beliefs across the world.
I want to quote a lyric from the song “Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight.
Take control of your mind and meditate.” We have enough hate in this world. It is becoming a
dangerous place as the song says: Nations droppin' bombs, chemical gases filling lungs of little
ones. It is scary to think that as time passes by, we are always inching towards the possibility of
war.
It is finally time to foster love and cultivate peace. All the bad things this world brings,
makes you want to question is there any good that is to come? Is there any love with all the
indifference? Is there kindness in the midst of spite?
If only people prioritized love and kindness above all else, the world would be a little
nicer. Perhaps we would see the world in a different light and maybe, just maybe, there would be
change.
