DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE V

Content Standard:

• Weathering and soil erosion shape the earth’s surface and effect living things and
environment.
Performance Standard:

• Participate in project that reduces soil erosion in the community.

Most Essential Learning Competency:

• Investigate extent of soil erosion in the community and its effects on living things and the
environment (S5FE-Iva-1)

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. Identify the agent of soil erosion;
b. appreciate the importance of taking care of our natural resources;
c. make a group reporting on the solution to a calamity problem.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

A. TOPIC: Soil erosion
B. REFERENCE: Science V beyond Boarders pp.154-160. /Online sources.
C. Science Concept: The forces of weathering and erosion are continually breaking
down the earth. Rock is worn away and soil is washed into rivers and seas. Water and
wind are constantly changing the force of the earth. Large rock formation is broken
down by the wind and water in a process called weathering.
D. PROCESSES: Identifying, Inquiring, communicating.
E. VALUE FOCUS: Appreciate the beauty of our natural resources and to help
preserve the natural resources in the community.
F. MATERIALS: Manila paper, Paper tarp Picture chart.

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory Activity
• Prayer
• Greetings
• Checking of attendance
B. Review
What was our topic last meeting? Weathering Teacher
Ok what is weathering? Weathering is a sit of physical,
chemical and biological
processes that changes the physical and chemical properties of rocks and soil at or
near the earth surface. Very Good!
C. Motivation
Activity (Teacher will present a picture with follow up questions)

Ok class, what have you observed inthe picture? A flowing river teacher

Very Good! Have you ever seen a flowing river? Yes teacher!
In your observation what will happen to the river

after a heavy rain? The soil in the river side will eventually
transfer its location due to water flows
Very Good! How about for example the people
will continue to cut more trees in our forest what
do you think will happen to the mountains?

There is a possibility of having landslide

teacher.
Excellent!

D. Presentation of the lesson

Based on your answers in this picture class, what
do you think is our topic for this morning? Soil Erosion teacher

Very Good! Our topic for this morning is about

Soil erosion.

E. Setting of Standard
But before we start our discussion, what will a
good student do if the teacher is talking in front
of you? Listen, set properly, and participate
teacher!

Very good! Can I expect that all from you class? Yes Teacher!

F. Unlocking of difficulties

Is the materials that are transmitted Due to erosion.

Soil Erosion- The transfer of sediments into
One place to another.
Agent- The cause of a particular action.

G. Discussion Proper

Again, class what does it mean when we say “AGENT”?

based on our topic? It is a cause of a particular action

teacher.
Very Good!

(There are agent of soil erosion)

AGENTS OF SOIL EROSION
1. Rainfall- Raindrops hit the surface of the earth and loosen the topsoil
this is called “splash Erosion”

2. Rivers- Rivers can break up particles along the bottom of the river and
carry them downstream.
Waves- Ocean waves can cause the coastline to erode. The force of the
waves causes pieces of rocks and coastline to break off.
Floods- Large floods can cause erosion to happen very quickly as they come into contact with floods
cause a lot of damage to human lives and natural resources.

3. Wind- in dry area it causes erosion by picking up carrying loose

particles and dust away.

4. Glaciers- Are likely giant river of ice that slowly move around. As they
move around, they shape mountains and also0 carry out Val.

Human- can also cause erosion such as cutting of trees, flatten of mountain,
breaking hills, construction of homes and quarrying.

Okay class, in your own idea, how can you help to reduce
soil erosion in our community? As a student, and as a member of the
community we will not be involve such
wrong human activity to avoid
landslides and other calamities, hence,
we will help encourage others not to do
so.

Very well said!

J. Generalization
Again class, what are those agents of soil erosion? Rainfall, rivers, waves, floods,
wind, glacier, humans.

And among those agents what agent is the most

Responsible or influential? Human teacher

Very Good!

K. Application
Ok this time we will have an activity, this will be group 1
and this will be group 2, you will be given a picture, all you
have to do is to discuss with your group if what agent of
soil erosion you are assigned with and you will create a
solution to the problem that was assign to you Then later
you will report it in class You will be given 5 minutes to do
the task.
Am I clear class? Yes teacher

You will be graded by this rubrics:

Group Collaboration---------------50%
Delivery ---------------20%
Main Idea --------------30%

----------------------------------------

100%

GROUP 1
GROUP 2

-----------------------Student Reporting------------------------

IV. Evaluation

c. Cleaning Program.

B. Write true if the statement is true and write false if the statement is wrong.
1. Landslide can be caused by water, wind, animals, and humans.
_____________________.
2. Sediments are the materials transported due to erosion.
___________________________
3. Erosion causes damage to our environment

4. Humans are not responsible of what is happening in our
surroundings_________________

C. 5 points essay.

How does soil erosion affect us? Explain your answer.
