SUMMARY

According to the World Health Organization, air pollution is the contamination of the indoor

or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that changes the natural

characteristics of the atmosphere. This is a silent, invisible, and dangerous threat to the health of the

people living in polluted areas, with the most recent being the areas being places ravaged by war.

BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM

The world's fourth largest risk factor for early death is reported to be air pollution. Air

pollution is defined as the contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical,

physical, or biological substance that affects the atmosphere's characteristics. According to World

Health Organization 2023, air pollution is responsible for almost 7 million deaths around the world,

annually.

The majority of air pollution is caused by human beings, in the form of emissions from

factories, cars, planes, cigarette smokes, and aerosol cans. Air pollution can cause both short-term and

long-term illnesses. Illnesses such as pneumonia, asthma and bronchitis. The unpleasant smell

produced by factories, garbage, and sewer systems can cause discomforts such as headaches, nausea,

dizziness, and irritation to the nose, throat, eyes, or skin. While the long-term effects of air pollution

are the diseases that could last years or a lifetime, sometimes it could even lead to death. These

ailments include heart diseases, lung cancer, and any respiratory illness. Diseases that can affect

people's heart, lungs, liver, nerves, and brain. (nationalgeographic.org, 2023)

Air pollution has a lot of major effects not only to human beings, but also to animals, plants,

and the environment. By reducing the burden of diseases caused by air pollution, it can help minimise

all the possible risks. The researchers came up with the (title) to contribute to the process of slowly

reducing the probable danger air pollution could cause.

This paper will explore the potential beneficiaries of the (device) aimed to improve the lives

of the people and to improve the condition of the environment. There are multiple beneficiaries of this

study, the primary one’s being the people, the environment, the community and the government. This

device benefits the people by taking the polluted air and turning it into clean, fresh air that helps to

lower the risk of asthma attacks, prolong life, and helps with any cardiovascular and respiratory issues

by providing clean oxygen. With the increase of cleaner air thanks to the (device) plants and small

ecosystems found in the environment may be able to thrive and be able to have better water quality

and lessen the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory conditions like emphysema are among the long-

term health benefits of air pollution. Long-term exposure to air pollution can also harm a person's

kidneys, liver, brain, nerves, and other organs with some scientists believing birth abnormalities are

caused by air pollution but with the (device) all of these health problems can have less risk and

decrease the fatality of air pollution in-turn helping the community flourish. Finally, with all three of

the former beneficiaries improving in-turn letting the government gain more manpower, and allowing

them to develop surrounding infrastructure and areas.

PROPOSED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM PRESENTED

As the year passes, problems with relation to air pollution have been persistent and increased.

Both human-made and natural resources are the main causes of this problem. For instance, vehicle

emissions, fuel oils, wildfire smokes, etc. (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences,

2024). The problem harms human health, animals, plants and also damages buildings (National

Geographic Headquarters, n.d.). The researchers come up with a proposal, creating a robot that has

the capability to lessen air pollution, specifically indoors. (title) is a robot that has the capability to
lessen air pollution, improving indoor air quality. It is an arduino-based self-powered robot that has an

obstacle avoidance system.

Arduino UNO will serve as the brain of this robot. The (title) can be useful to individuals as

it cleans and improves the air quality inside their homes. It can serve as a proposed solution to address

air pollution and indoor air quality. This device addresses air pollution; however, it is limited to

confined spaces. This device is made mainly for indoors and may not work efficiently when used

outdoors. Ultrasonic sensor will be added for the obstacle avoidance system. Motor driver module

will be added to control the wheel. Air purifier module will be added to the device, together with

other sensors. This device is self-powered and once it senses obstacles throughout the way, it will

automatically avoid it.

This proposal aims to benefit humans, especially those who prefer to stay home. This device

can purify the air and lessen the possibility for them to be infected or contaminated with air-borne

diseases. The researchers plan to create a portable device that has the capability to purify air. Suitable

sensors will be connected to the Arduino UNO. The Arduino UNO will be programmed using

Arduino Programming Language. Combining Ultrasonic Sensor, Air Purifier Module and Motor

Driver Module, it can save individual’s time, mainly homeowners and those who prefer to stay at

home. This can improve indoor air quality especially in confined spaces where air cannot easily

escape. It focuses on combating air pollution, specifically indoor air quality. The researchers aim to

create healthier living environments and contribute to a sustainable future.

plastic will be used in its frame. Plastics are lightweight; the device can be carried anywhere without

hindrance.
