A complex sentence has an
independent clause and at least one
dependent clause.

Complex sentence?
The function of complex sentences is
to provide more information to explain
or modify the sentence's main point.
It also helps with punctuating sentences
correctly.
How to make a Complex Sentence
The complex sentence needs an independent
clause and at least one dependent clause.
Examples:
Stay in the bath until the When I grow up, I’ll buy us

'stay in the bath' is an 'When I grow up' is a
independent clause. dependent clause.
'until the phone rings' is a 'I’ll buy us a house' is an

Subordinating Conjunctions are used to link an independent
clause to a dependent clause. Some subordinating
conjunction words are although, because, before, even
though, until, when and etc.
Examples:
Where were you when the You cannot leave the

'where were you' is a dependent 'You cannot leave the school' is an

Use a comma ( ,, ) after a dependent clause at the front that
acts like an adverb- typically stating a time, place or condition.
It also shows where the independent clause starts.
If an independent clause is at the front, no comma is needed.
Examples:

Sometimes, a reader will perceive your writing as stilted
and unnatural since simple language can't always convey a
complex idea. These simple statements are combined into
longer thinking chains by using compound-complex
sentences.
