    DRUGS

    Drugs are any substances or chemicals


    which when taken into the body either
    through nasal, oral, transdermal, or
    intravenous way have physical, emotional,
    and behavioral effects on a person.

    DRUG OF ABUSE
    Drug of Abuse are drugs commonly abused by
    users. In the Philippines, the three drugs
    of abuse are shabu, marijuana,
    and inhalants.

    DRUG DEPENDENCE
    Drug dependence is a cluster of
    physiological, behavioral, and
    cognitive phenomena of variable
    intensity which the use of a drug
    takes on a high priority thereby
    creating a strong desire to take
    the substance.

    DRUG MISUSE
    Drug misuse is the use of a substance
    incoherent or inconsistent with the
    prescribed dosage or frequency of use.

    DRUG ABUSE
    Drug abuse is the use of a substance for
    non-medicinal purposes. Abuse leads
    to organ damage like brain damage
    and liver damage, addiction, and
    troubled behavioral patterns.
    DRUG TOLERANCE
    Drug tolerance is the condition of
    the body to adapt to the effects of
    substance to the body thus requiring
    an even larger amount of the
    substance to experience the same
    physiological and mental effect
    experienced when taking the
    smaller dosage.

    6 CLASSIFICATION OF DRUGS

    01 GATEWAY DRUGS
    - Legal drugs that a non-drug user might try,
    which can lead them to more dangerous
    drugs such as marijuana and shabu.

    02 DEPRESSANT DRUGS
    - Slows down a person's central nervous
    system (brain, spinal cord, nerves).
    - These drugs make patients feel
    sleepy and light headed.

    03 STIMULANT DRUGS
    - Speed up a person’s central nervous
    system.
    - Makes a person’s energy high.

    04 NARCOTICS
    - Drugs which can relieve pain and
    induce sleepiness.
    - These drugs are illicit and
    dangerous if taken.

    05 HALLUCINOGENS
    - Drugs which distort reality and
    Facts.
    - Affects all senses that make a user feel
    things that do not exist in the time being.
    06 INHALANTS
    - These are found in ordinary
    household chemical products.
    - Abuse of these can lead to
    delusions, brain damage, liver
    damage, comatose, and even death.

    HOW TO PREVENT DRUGS

    • distracting yourself with activities


    like exercise or listening to music

    • surrounding yourself with friends


    who don't use drugs

    • avoiding places where you know drugs


    and alcohol will be available

    • knowing how to resist temptation

    • learning how to cope with stress and


    relax without drugs

    • avoid undue peer pressure

    •seeking help from parents and peers

    •understand how substance abuse develops

    •avoid temptation and peer pressure

    •keep a well-balanced life
