II. CONTENT
A. Topic CLIMATE
• Climate - is the general pattern of weather in a certain area over a long period of time.
 Weather - is the condition of the atmosphere at a specific place and time.
 Topography - Is the study of the forms and features of land surfaces. The topography of an
area may refer to the land forms.
 Windward Side - the area which the wind blows.
 Leeward Side –The air moves down towards the opposite region.
B. Key Concepts  El Niño– is an abnormal and lengthy warming in the eastern part of the pacific ocean. Also
referred to as “Christ the child” or “Little boy” in Spanish.
• La Niña - means Little Girl in Spanish. La Niña is also sometimes called El Viejo, anti-El Niño,
or simply "a cold event." La Niña has the opposite effect of El Niño. During La Niña events,
trade winds are even stronger than usual, pushing more warm water toward Asia.
• Climate Change - refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may
be natural, but since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily
due to the burning of fossil fuels (like coal, oil and gas), which produces heat-trapping gases.
