Recounts
While writing ,you should put in mind the purpose we want to achieve by this piece of
writing:
Is it to recount an event ?
Is it to persuade somebody of a certain point of view ?
Is it to give information about something or to explain how something works ?
Is it to review a book, a product or a movie ?
So the main purpose of your writing may be to recount , to persuade , to inform , to
explain or to review .

1- Recount texts
*Purpose
This is a text which retells events in a sequenced order
*Examples
An account of a visit to a museum

A biography of Amy Johnson

An autobiography of David Beckham

A newspaper story

An account of a historical event- the journey of Christopher Columbus

Diary

*Language features:
-Past tense

-Descriptive details to add interest

Eg: similes, adjectives and adverbs to bring the event alive for the reader

-Write in the first or third person

-Use connectives of times: meanwhile – next – then

-Use conjunctions within a sentence .

( we looked round the dinosaur room while class five looked at the fossil display . )
-Proper noun for people and places.

- A verity of sentence starters .

Research a famous person, living or dead so that you can write a


biography about them. Make sure you find out:

-How are they remembered now,

-Any other important information you can find out about them.
