CHAPTER TWO: INTRODUCTION
1.1BACKGROUND
UTC Kichwamba is government institution of tertiary education in the field of offering diplomas in
engineering courses and uses home based and outside based sites to train technicians.
For our academic year, the college required us to construct the super structure of the staff house.
10
1.2Problem statement.
The problem is limited accommodation space for lecturers at UTC Kichwamba . Some lecturers
experience difficulty in travelling long distances to the college. They are so much affected during
rainy season..
11
1.3 Objective
• To fulfill the UBTEB requirement for the award of National Diploma in Civil engineering

CHAPTER FOUR:
3.1PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
3.1.1 Transfer of dimensions from the plan to the ground: this was done using a tape measure
and a mark pen
3.1.2 Laying APC: It is a cement sand mortar layer of ratio 1:3 and of thickness 10mm. The
purpose was to prevent ants from weakening a super structure
3.1.3 Laying of DPC: to penetration of moisture from the ground into the walls. It covers the
thickness of the wall
3.1.4 Brick work: we used common bricks, river sand, OPC to raise external walls using header
bond and internal walls were laid in stretcher bond. Mortar ratio used was 1:4 i.e. 1 part of
cement and 4 parts of sand and the brick work was done up to window level

CHAPTER FIVE:
EVALUTION
Benefits, Challenges and Solutions
4.1 Benefits
4.2 Challenges
• We were many and this could not enable all of us acquire all skills.
4.3 Solutions
• Group work was encouraged to increase efficiency and avoid time wastage.
21
Recommendation and conclusion
4.4 Recommendation
• The college should provide enough time for project work so as to improve efficiency.
• The college should provide clean water and food for the students at the site.
• The college should increase on the number of supervisors for the efficiency of work
4.5 Conclusion
• This real life was wonderful and interesting since it was educative to the year one semester
two students due to the support of our project supervisor. Therefore more projects should
be provided and examined to encourage and appropriate skills to students and more real life
time should be provided.
